The only way they could fix this is by setting rate card and thats it. Thats the only way to fix rideshare is a rate card but these idiots want tax money. The problem with 15 dollars an hour is one it will not pay enough and then you wont be able write off mileage. She's absolutely insane but I dont think it will hold and get challenged
I would think the idea would be $15/hr plus the federal rate for mileage. This would immediately mean far more ants lining up for work, which I would presume means that ants would need to be the first to answer a ping to get work.

Another thing to think about... no matter how "good" a piece of legislation might be, if you're a bottom earner it may help you make more. But if you're a top earner it may hurt you because if U/L is forced to pay bottom earners more, they will naturally figure out a way to pay top earners less.
There will be no such thing as a "top earner" since everyone will be offered the same rate.

5 hours last night 200 dollars. I only took surges. Most of these other will take everything and drives miles to pick up calls
So are you trying to say that the only way to make a good rate is to only work when there is a surge? While that makes perfect sense, I think the reality is that there are a lot of folks who cannot make enough money to only take a surge, and thus take the lowball rides too.

Just like many drivers decided to take their moving violation ticket to court in hopes of having the penalty reduced or even thrown out… the court ultimately imposed the fine but the person could have also just pled guilty and paid it outright when the regulatory agency ( police, state patrol, etc) issued
A small employer may not have the resources to litigate and just pay the fines and make the changes.
In my college days, I once fought a $20 parking ticket, and the cop never showed up. Later on I fought a $10 ticket, but the cop showed up that time. :(

A construction company’s owner was found guilty of misclassifying 30 construction workers who should have been employees. Since the authorities determined this act was intentional with the objective of not paying the taxes, the owner of G&R Drywall and Framingwas sentenced to almost two years of prison, with 12-month-long consecutive probation.
Wow, if it's that easy, how about throwing into jail folks that hire illegals?

Forgive me but I'm totally ignorant of what it was you were proposing, were you suggesting that as an employee of Rideshare we received $15 an hour, and then get the IRS tax deduction as a credit instead of a deduction, is that what you were saying, do you actually think that's going to happen. if we become hourly at $15 an hour and get nothing but a few cents per mile for expense compensation from rideshare we are screwed, at that point I will be done with doing rideshare.
Yes, that is exactly what I am saying. Uber as W2 employer would pay the nominal pay rate, and then pay the federal rate of any mileage as a business expense. The federal rate is set at the customary expenses of owning & operating a reliable newish vehicle. For 2023, it's $0.655/mi.
