Is Uber crazy or just dumb? I just reviewed an Uber customer notice advising Uber riders that they can add stops during a ride..."up to five extra stops". Did Uber provide notice to drivers of this feature, I never heard of it, last I knew the ride could do two stops only.

Since I am almost always driving against a three day/70 quest, I will not be too happy when a rider starts adding stops, let alone up to five.

Yup.. I just tell them “ please read terms of service. You add stops before ordering ride, so driver can see that rides has stops. During the ride you have to ask driver if they are ok with stops. Some are ok.. some are not. I am the second one. So I will end the ride after first stop or you can remove it. Your choice. Thanks.”

Also never let someone leave anything in ur car while making stop. Just say against uber rules.

Has Uber now or ever informed pax how long a stop can entail? I can't remember.

And do some pax actually believe they can reasonably expect a driver to stop at Walmart, then Target, then Market Basket, etc., all for 20 minutes each on a single ride?

...

I think most cabs are delighted to get such requests most of the time vs. Uber drivers. At least those sans regular customers. Most cab drivers don't do many fares in a 12-hour shift, too much waiting in long cab and Logan queues even in a robust economy, so anytime a pax wants to detour for a quick stop at CVS is fine by me most of the time. It's $28 per hour waiting time last I drove three years ago, plus the $2.60 per mile and $2.80 flag drop. Flat rate destinations are $3.20 per mile including tolls, no matter how much traffic.

And I could be wrong, but I think Boston taxis haven't had a fare increase since 2008 or 2009? Certainly couldn't do so once ridshare arrived.

It’s in the manual three minutes
And almost nobody I have makes it
I screenshot the start time and the time at 3 minutes when I leave
Then report them as rude

No, neither, just hoping that x number of ants go along with this, making more money for Fuber while making less for themselves, oh, but wait....as per Uber math partners will actually be making more money when doing multistops (because .06 a min x 10 min waits x 5 stops =$3 more, sweet!), never mind.

I had the same reaction to this email. The message most passengers will get is the first line “ there’s no need to tell your driver...”. Fortunately I haven’t had many people trying to add stops after the ride has begun lately. Kinda goes against the whole ‘independent contractor’ premise that corporate is selling everyone. Just more potential conflict and arguments in our cars. Our choice is either cancel mid-trip, or a long winded disclaimer to pax that you don’t necessarily agree to stops unless there’s a mutual understanding.

No long-winded disclaimer necessary, just "sorry, Uber doesn't pay me enough for any stops."

That’s a good one; but, what if it’s luggage?

I have airport banned so dont get much luggage. Just had maybe 2 rides in 3 years with luggage who wanted stops. I politely asked them to remove the luggage. They asked “ why… we will be back quick”. I told them “ once I had a passenger claim i took something valuable from their belongings. So i had to prove myself with dashcam footage and it was a lot of hassle and stress. So I dont wanna deal with it again. So if its a stop any belongings from my car or trunk will be removed.” Just a madeup story.

Once its done… I simply lock doors and drive away. The look on the face is priceless. Just makes my day.

Right, no need for the long "song and dance", instead I just level with them that "at .06 cents a mins...I cant afford to wait at your stop", savvy pax will get it and offer up a cash or venmo/cash app tips, those are not will insist that they are "super quick"..."Well, ok, I can donate 3 mins to your stop, but then I'll have to go"....I arrive, start timer, at 2:55 I'm edging out and by 3:00 I'm gone.

Is that what it is? .06 a minute? Ouch

Yes indeedy, a driver would get paid a princely 6 cents a mins to wait in my market...so while OP members (and/or trolls) regularly grouse that drivers "lack empathy nd understanding" when they turn down the multi-stops, or leave when pax keep one waiting forever, I would share that I'm not economically positioned to take that kinda of financial haircut on a ride at time....I just cant afford it, and I level with pax about this. Its nice that so many of our colleagues are: 1) out hobby driving "for fun" (not money), or 2) get paid lucratively to wait, or 3) can lose money on multi-stop rides. But none of these 3 are me.

Well, it’s a whole .20 per minute in my market and .61 per mile. Yep, even at .20 per minute is nothing. That’s why I tell them I can only wait up to 3, 4. Or 5 minutes (according to the enjoyment of their company). Luckily not a big thing I worry about because only about 5% need a stop along the way.

mann, pax are obsessed with the multi-stop in my market, even when I'm vigilant about it (pre screening and removing them), I still get saddled with some on just about every outing by pax who want to add them on after the ride starts. Again, its not necessarily the "pax fault" because U/L aggressively promo these (it increases their bottom line at no extra over head for them, so why not?), so its more about letting them know I can afford it.
