I received today this letter from DTPI in which it says "... you must not accept a booking from a booking service that is not accreditated (UBER)". Ben Hall: what if in addition to the fine you got demerits points? I don't think Uber is going to give you your points back my friend.

since July 1 2016 when ridesharing was regulated, all rideshare drivers are required by the State government to have driver accreditation and the vehicle owners to have operator accreditation.

I do not believe that being caught driving for an unaccredited platform like uber will result in demerit points.

Hi guys, been driving for a few months now but last night is the first time I've seen the compliance officers. Right at the pickup point at the Garden last night. So what is the deal with Uber giving them a great way to target drivers???
Any word from Uber what they mught suggest to this? One passenger I came across was told by a police officer that they might as well walk away as when their driver came he/she was going to fined and not be able to drive her home.

it makes me wonder why uber continue to refuse to comply to the regulations. The fees regarding accreditation have been reduced considerably.

Does anyone know the outcome if a driver is accredited to carrying passengers whilst being a partner for Uber. Thanks

Thanks for your input, the question was in relation to being pulled up by the authorities. It was my first post, so you've made me feel welcomed.
Hi oldboy. I would expect you would certainly get a fine since that letter has been sent out.

As an accredited driver they may be a bit harsher especially if you are driving an unaccredited vehicle.

Welcome to the board. As it stands you may be asked to appear before the standards tribunal but I haven't heard of anyone losing their accreditation as yet. Good question though. Why should anyone who has at least gone part of the way be treated any worse than those who have made no effort at all to try and be compliant?

At the end everything is about the Money gentlemen. Why don't the government visit the Uber ofices here in Adelaide and close it down if they are doing business illegally? ANSWER: for the money!!!. Is better for the government to force any potential driver to spend around $300 for the Driver Accreditation + other test $$$, and then give any driver a ticket $$$ even if they have the Driver ID.

In NSW before uber x was regulated, any drivers caught oprating on the uber X platform had their registration suspended for 3 months. That is something that could be a bigger deterrence than a fine.

The DPTI regulations probably do not have the power to go and close an office down, in any case uber could probably operate without an office. When they started in Adelaide they signed drivers up at the airport and cafes.

Uber have set up the drivers by setting up a uber pick up zone. But all the drivers will keep on driving. Uberx drivers should simply refuse to drive .If that happened uber would hurry up their compliance. But whilst uberx drivers continue to drive regardless of the law, uber wont worry about getting legal.

Most drivers will be surprised to see compliance at the pick up zones It just wouldn't occur to them compliance would know they were there. At least the first time.

Becoming complaint creates problems for Uber as far as driver retention goes. If forced to jump though hoops such as government regulated inspections the public liability insurance etc.

Then there's the dollar levy that comes into place in April along with the reduction in the 10% cabcharge fee to 5%. The cost of catching a cab and paying by card stays about the same with the dollar extra and the 5% reduction in cabcharge fee cancelling each other out. On the other hand every Uber fare will cost one dollar more and that will come from the passengers, Uber or the driver but someone will pay it. I don't believe that Uber will pay the dollar they will just try and embarrass the government.

My gut feeling is the government will bring in penalties that includes demerit points Uber will then pull the pin and start planting the "Uber saved my life" propaganda in the media. Journalists can be brought in Adelaide for as little as a promotional code for free rides I've no doubt. They will do this until the next election and hope the libs get in and they get a better deal.

It's a personal conspiracy theory I have I could be completely wrong but I've dealt with BS artists most of my life and Uber is following a very predictable type of behaviour.
