A low estimated five-year cost of 47 cents per mile pushed the Toyota Prius to the top of the list.

If that's the average then my God, Uber is paying us 60c per mile and 55 cent on pool. We are only really making 13 cents to 8 cents per mile on pool.

To those people who claim otherwise there are a few studies that back these estimates up... And we didn't even include the miles getting to the passenger in this so it's really lower.

We all aren't driving Priuses so most of us are one big maintence bill away from being out of a job.

Anyone here saving up 47 c per mile? If so, how much do you make per week doing 40 hours after accounting for this depriciation?

I'd like to hear you guys thoughts on how much you save per mile given that we should be saving 47cents on average and how much you make per hour after accounting for this.

Just curious, what MPG are you getting on the Prius?

When I started doing this in January of this year it was basically to get the f out of the house. I figured if I could even break even its all good. My '12 Accord had 53K on it. 6 months later it has 87K on it and I'm wondering if breaking even is possible. I use the money and should be saving it.

With the current rates it's better to buy an older car that's still in good working condition to drive for uber bcuz a newer car will lose its value quicker than u can ever imagine

My '06 costs me about 17 cents per mile to operate and my '12 costs me about 22 cents per mile. The longer they perform well and gas not being unreasonable, those numbers will drop. I am well ahead of the game versus a new Prius. Those numbers are based of off the '06 giving me 40,000 miles and the '12 giving me 150,000 miles before engine/transmission issues. Also based on gas at $2.20/gal.

i started in a prius, but not being a tiny man after driving 8+ hours well it felt like this, when i got out of the car at the end of a shift.

Plus the hybrid battery flat lined on me and for the same price as a repair I bought my honda pilot , now i have room and can pick up xl runs. Plus people like the space. I have one or 2 pax order xl just because They DONT want to ride in a prius. Direct quote from many pax, not my words.
Plus I sold the prius with a bad hybrid battery for some cash, and yes i was honest about the problem and even told them what kind of money they were looking at for a fix.
A prius may work for some but it is not the end all be all of uber rides.
When I owned mine I use to say the only thing good about it was the MPG, and YES they get 50+ mpg!
