Had a 4 a.m. ping for a 4.33 pax, at that fancy 45 Stuart Street building (the Ava tower). A 25-30 year old foreign male. Went just down the street to the 250 Stuart Street luxury building. Yeah, a bit stereotypical for those buildings.

A bit aggressive upon entering, as he directed me to just go straight, then take another turn, etc., but nothing really threatening or life changing.

His cologne was a bit strong, but otherwise...I'd take him again no problem.

Not sure how some pax have such low ratings.

But I'd appreciate Uber showing their lifetime number of rides in order to have a better idea of the rating.

Guy sounds like a 4.6 or so based on your description of his behavior.

Wonder if he also orders while drunk and that drops his ratings further.

Or maybe smells of smoke at times or often has an annoying gal or two riding with him...maybe too many requests for 7-11 stops.

Regardless, I gave him a 5.

Oh, I was quick to arrive but he was already there. I wonder how many drivers had passed on his call, so that's why he was already there.

Maybe in the past he wouldn't leave his apartment until the app said the driver was there.

By the time he gets down stairs to the sidewalk it's been 4-5 minutes the driver has waited leading to his low rating.

If someone makes me wait close to the time limit they get 1 star for wait time unless they give me a cash tip for the inconvenience.

Because on a longer ride than that, his act would have grown annoying very, very quickly.

That's like 4 turns and three blocks. He really thought directions were necessary? At 4am he'd earn a bad rating from me too, probably a 3.

I could care less about the cologne, but the turn by turn is over the top, especially at that time for me.

Drove a guy the other day. Low rating, 45+ trip. He was from y'all's territory.

I immediately figured out why he was rated low. He was an absolute beast about telling me how to drive, which lane, whom to over take, etc...

I honestly didn't mind and he tipped $10. Great conversation as well.

So to me he was a 5* pax and that's how I rated him. Wish I could have left a warning though in words, ya know, "heads up, this dude will tell you every move to make but pretty cool and tips well"

What bothers y'all doesn't bother me and vice versa.

Ratings mean nothing once the pax travels out of their home territory.

I took a chance on a 4.4 at Logan around midnight, mostly because I was ready to be done for the night. PAX super nice and respectful, was a 70 mile trip that I miked for 91 miles, he was asleep so he didn't care. 1.4 surge too :D

I still prefer to stick to higher rated PAX, 4.5 and above seems to be okay for Boston, a 4.3 might be okay but the lower the rating the bigger the chance their is a reason other than requesting while drunk they are rated so low.

Personally I hate backseat drivers, if they have a specific route they want me to take that's all good, but don't tell me what lane to drive in or to overtake people. I drive my way and keep my car and myself safe, if they don't like it they can get another driver.

What sucks is that pax can still rate you 1 star on uber even if you cancel the ride after starting.
I know rating doesnt mean much but will take you 500 rated trips to get ride of this bad one.

True, but I'd explain to them in as nice and professional way as I can that I'm driving my personal vehicles and I'm I'm not willing to make needlessly risky driving maneuvers. Hopefully they would accept that and respect it, but if they rate me low, I'll live with it, better than being in an accident or getting a ticket. My rating recently dropped to 4.8 because I got a couple more 4 stars, maybe because I'm not vacuuming as much as I used too... it gets so f***ing old. I'm gonna buy a shop vac though and just do it at home.

Either way I'm happy they 4 stared me instead of 1 starring me, whatever their reason was. Which is why I generally use the range of stars when a PAX does something mild that I think earned them less than 5 stars.

Yes, to me, he gets five stars.

A bit annoying pax to some, especially for a quick ride, but one needs to adapt within reason to all personalities.

That's why I really enjoy driving most of the time, unlike some posters here.

And he wasn't even eating or drinking.

That's why uber should introduce 6 star rating.
Yes a 6 star rating for tippers only. It would be a nice gesture by Dara as a follow up to the recent Uber commercial. It would signal to pax that Uber is changing its culture around tipping, encourage tips and pax get a 6 star rating if they tip over a certain percentage. The pax will earn a "6 star" virtual badge to make them feel good about it.

It's actually not a bad idea. If you've screwed up in the past as a rider and are willing to behave and tip your way back to a good rating, that sounds good to me.
I have a sense that most pax feel their 4.65 or 4.75 rating is darned impressive. Hardly any Boston restaurant would have such a high rating on any of the sites

So...not much need to improve in their eyes?

I had a 4.61 passenger in my car the other day. He asked me what showed up on the driver screen when a request came in, and if we saw the destination. I said no, we only see the pickup time ETA and your rating. I spent a solid 2 minutes explaining how important ratings were in affecting the likelihood of getting a ride, and said that ratings less than a 4.7 may not get a ride easily during peak surge times or if drivers were far away. He had zero interest in the discussion. Passengers don't care about their rating, sadly.
