I just created this page on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Tipyouruberdriver/737932662983289?fref=ts

If you are on facebook, please like it and encourage others to like it.

Once it has a lot of driver support, I'm going to throw a significant amount of facebook ads at it targeted towards facebook users who like Uber.

I'm putting my money where my mouth is. Please help by just liking it.

I like your idea, but I avoid Facebook. I don't want to put money in Zukerbergs pocket any more than I want to put money in Kalanics pocket.

I will support the idea of educating riders about tipping their driver as long as the "threat" of losing stars is not part of it. I do not believe riders should be deducted stars based on tipping. Other than that I am completely on board with getting the word out. So far the FB pages appears to be doing it the right way.

Lou, before I drove I took Uber to the airport with my friend who said we didn't need to tip, it felt extremely odd not to give this guy a few bucks, it really did, I can't emphasize that enough. Most parts of the service industry have tips as part of the equation, most know that the minimum wage is not going to cut it. As a restaurant manager I would advise diners if they really pressed the matter that part of the reason you visit is because you presumably know the service is excellent, for that to continue the staff have to be rewarded appropriately according to the industry standards, they pay a percentage of the total bill, if they don't get tips on a regular basis they will be working for your pleasure only!
Uber riders know what they are doing and know how they feel about it, pretty cheap, just to correct a little ambiguity or misinformation is not going to make me feel bad if it becomes widely known that no tip equals 3 or 4 star rating, we are not kidding anybody here, they know as they step out of the car, they know we know, there should be a minor penalty for conveniently avoiding what is obvious when its at the expense of another.

Until Uber cuts out its horrible practice of saying "No Need to Tip" I am not going to hold it against the riders. Some people still believe the tip is included already and Uber has done nothing to make them think any differently. If Uber says "Take Care of your Driver" and people do not tip then they will lose stars. Until things change I will continue to educate my passengers when appropriate. I have a lot of repeat business in my city and they are tipping and it is certainly not because their rate dropped.

Plus as I have stated on many other occasions if we are dinging passengers for not tipping how do I know which riders are the real pain in the rears? The people we drivers really should be avoiding. We are lowering the standard on which drivers will accept. Before you know it drivers will take 4 star riders because ratings are going to constantly drop because riders are just following what Uber is preaching.

This is my stance.

No one is saying you need to rate non-tipping riders lower, just as no one is saying riders need to tip.

As a driver it's your option to rate riders lower for any reason, just as it's a rider's option to tip for any reason.
I agree with you. I just do not like the idea of other drivers rating non-tippers lower, it's within their right no doubt but I really do not think they consider what they are doing in the long run, that is my point. To each his own, just know what you are doing if that is the choice you are making.

I support the FB page Hammer. I want to see change in Tipping, I have had a taste of it with Lyft and it taste good. My tips almost always cover Lyft's fees.

I kind of get it Lou, don't disagree with you but I rarely look at a riders ratings mostly because I don't work after it gets dark, so I didn't really think of that aspect of rating a no tipper lower.
I cannot get over the cheap feeling I got when letting the Uber drive off at the airport, if it happened to me then I doubt others are feeling different about it.
How do you get repeat customers, you just happen to be the closest each time they request?
Uber know what they are doing, I'll try to battle them but I get that its part of their cashless genre even if its a shitty one, I use Uber as an opportunity to promote two existing revenue streams I have just as they use me.....it makes me feel a little better about things...hehe.

If you read some of my other posts you will see that I do the same as you with other revenue streams. I too use Uber to my advantage.

I work mainly in one city, which is part of Metro Atlanta. This city is a big college town and within a 7 mile radius there are a ton of popular bars. I work the same two nights a week Friday and Saturday from 8pm to 4am. Over time I have been getting a lot of the same riders. I know when some of my favorite riders leave and I usually am parked outside with a good chance they will get me when they request a ride. I DO NOT give out my personally cell #, I made that mistake one time and it back fired.

hehe..Good for you Lou, milk it until you don't need 'em anymore....in my car last week was the financial analyst for a listed international transportation company for the whole of S America, a lawyer from a firm that advisers the banking industry, a consultant who deals with how venture capitalists once they have pounced on a group of companies 'streamlines' all the disparate parts, apart from the run of the mill realtors, a boat captain and an actress (for telenovellas so not a real one lol) etc etc., sitting right next to me in my car .....I'm not talking Dolphins or Trump to these guys.
Because I'm just a driver I'm sure they open up more than they should, kinda a therapy session for their miserably stressful lives!

Liked and shared publicly on my own FB page. I also added the following:

"Uber users: please take a look at this page, and support tipping Uber drivers and/or an option to tip in the app (since most don't carry cash) please like this page. Uber has a policy of "no need to tip" but what they do not tell the rider is that tips ARE NOT included in what drivers are paid. Think of it this way: valets get tips, taxis get tips (for charging double what Uber does for the same thing), bell hops get tips...all things you're spending more money on than an Uber ride. Uber is also lowering its rates in many cities. The lower rates are having an effect on drivers earnings. Example: if the driver goes 4 miles and spends 10 minutes to get to a passenger and then only drives 2 miles and spends 5 minutes on driving that passenger to their destination...that driver just lost money because the trip to get to the passenger cost more than the trip to the destination. Drivers are only paid when a passenger is in the car, not on the trip to pick them up. Tips fill in these gaps and make driving profitable. In my time as an Uber driver I have lost money on some rides. Uber does not assist with maintenance/depreciation/gas costs on a car and now, that the wages are lower, these costs are barely covered. Newer Uber drivers will say otherwise but experienced drivers know the truth. Please support this cause."

I realize that some have voiced their opinions as asking for tips looking "desperate" and you know what? It's become that way for some, if not most, Uber drivers. In particular the ones that depend on this as a full time gig for whatever reason...be it a disability, unemployment, or what-have-you. If Uber paid the bills before and doesn't now, then yes times are desperate. In most cases one cannot find a job overnight. The opinion of "desperate" is just that, an opinion, and if someone holds this opinion that's fine...but the reality is it's come down to measures like this FB page, and at this point it is what it is.
