Relative noob here...today’s musing.

Today XL from ORD to south side manufacturing plant with 4 investment bankers. Talked biz amongst themselves the whole time...their deal in the $100M range. They paid $81. No tip.

Later in day, X from MDW to river north hotel. Middle aged mom in town for daughters graduation. Chatted her up the whole time about randomness. She paid $32....+$10 tip for me.

Never know how it’s gonna shake out.

Mostly, the more money riders have, the cheaper they tend to be. Exception sometimes, when they travel in groups.

From time to time if i am able to converse with business people, i will get a tip. But its hard to penetrate their bubble when they're talking shop.

Not personal. Are you new?

Ride A: You're no different than the dudette behind McDonald's counter.
Ride B: what a nice, polite, safe driver.

Mistake #14. Assuming tips have any correlation with money.

Oh wait I forgot, you would've gotten a tip if you chimed in on your analysis of their cash flow model assumption.

Why don't you mention how much did you get paid and not about how much they paid?

I'll add that tips aren't correlated with politics either.

Obvious wearing-it-on-my-sleeve Democrats (i could tell by their dumb Hillary Clinton Lyft avatar or overhearing conversations or destination/drop-off) aren't any better tippers than any random person.

Given a choice I'd rather take my chances with Billy Ray Cyrus wannabe who just flew in from Topeka.

I've had better tip experiences from country folk in town for a visit or work.

You're a Democrat (even some Bernie fans) and hate Trump? Practice what you preach. If you're spending $80 per person on dinner, you can spare a lousy $2 for your driver and literal-door-to-door service. it's the not being a hypocrite that counts. just saying.

your mileage may vary.

So today, a good day tho, but no tip..... I don't care is my motto ( I hope uber charged them well).
I got 1$ tip on lyft, from a mexican young girl on a 4.50$ ride. I might get more than that for the day when they remember the ride.... if.
So on 300$ my share just 1$ tip.... and I don't give a dam, just request that fare when 2.5x and I'm fine.

Update, still no tip on uber but on lyft I got another 5$ tip on another 2 fares. So on 4 trips with lyft I got 6$ tip from 3 of them. I have to mention that on lyft I pick only high prime time %. Thats impresive compared to 0 tip with 25 fares and 245$ earnings with uber yesterday..... still waiting for that tip from uber.
My business doesn’t rely on tips but why so many lyft pax tip.... even with a high price tag from the beginning?!?

If you're new, here's your first lesson. People on business travel will NOT tip, no matter WHAT. They will pay crazy high surges and not care, but will not tip. I believe this has something to do with their business reimbursement policy.

People on leisure travel WILL tip. People only leisure travel once or twice a year and are in a good mood. If you do a good job of putting them at ease and helping them relax after a presumably crappy plane ride, you've got a shot.

But don't EXPECT a tip, or you'll just piss yourself off and hate the work. Expect NOTHING, so that when you get SOMETHING, you're pleasantly surprised and it motivates you to drive a little longer that day.

Well far be it from me to counter Mr. Laker, favd share guru.

BUT

I find the opposite. I gets me fiver oudda da business people and detest the leisure--though I'm at risk over stating my case here.
So, maybe i'll try and see why I do well with the hard crowd and suck with the easy.

don't EXPECT a tip,
This is important--try hard for a tip and our bodies must give off some weird pheromone. Not only will they not tip dey one star you for being uppity

No I find you are more likely to get a tip the better you relate to the customer and converse with them

as a kid went to Christian school. now I'm as religious as a tree but I still like real Christmas music---beyond that generic PC, offend no one, snow time music.

when i used to play my christmas music mix, old time nostalgia seemed soften the cold hearts of tightwads
