OK gonna try not to rant about the absolute atrocity that is the Uber tipping situation.
What I do want to know is why some of my riders think they have added automatic gratuity on their trips.
Apparently their is a percentage you can lock in that tips the driver automatically. I surely dont see any extra money on my statements and it's not fair to confuse the riders into thinking they are tipping (which they kindly wanting to do) when the drivers are not getting it.

Obviously we all are completely miffed at why a rider who would tip a cab ride that is 40% more expensive than an uber and not tip an Uber driver. Why a bartender gets a $1 everytime they sell you a 4$ bottle of beer which entails reaching into a cooler and setting it on the bar.
I love how it's always the harworking people like cooks, waiters, etc.. that you typically receive tips from. It was like that when I managed a valet. People with the nicest cars were stiffs a lot of the time while people that can relate to other hardworking people with modest means were the best tippers.

It's quite the study in human behavior.
Anyways,
If someone could shed some light on the % tipping thing that would be great.
Thanks-Brian

The percentage tipping thing is a setting in the app for Uber TAXI (where the service is offered). While it only applies to Taxi, pax assume it applies to all rides. Just another way that Uber confuses the pax and screws us out of the chance to get a tip.

DD answered your question.

While the tipping thing is an annoyance and a discussion we shouldn't have to have with the PAX if Uber would simply put that damn option in the app...
However, I have just resigned to the obvious:

Thanks guys,
I like Uber and I am the type of driver who just gets out there and drives. It's juts crazy that Uber doesnt have a tip option for the rider once the trip is completed.
I never expect a tip and i'm okay with that. Its just unfathomable how Uber tries to disuade a rider from tipping by creating this completely false rumour that its included.
I am typically a day driver and you get more tips for day pax then night pax in my experience.

I had a passenger today that said to his friend, "it's cool, I don't have to tip, I just say have nice night and get out". To which I replied, "you don't have to tip your server, bartender, taxi driver or barber either but you do. Why, because it's the decent thing to do when people don't make a living wage, right? And how many of them let you play your own music, provide water, cell chargers, gum and mints and drive you around in a nice, clean car? No, you don't have to tip your uber driver but you SHOULD, just like your bartender." He actually looked embarrassed and at the end of the ride gave me $2 and said that he never thought of it that way and that I actually taught him something. I'm sure most riders would just give me 1 star and not give a crap but at least this young man got it. I started with Lyft Saturday and only had 3 rides but two of those tipped me on the app. I wish Lyft was busier in Baltimore!
