Does Tlc allow tints ??
Yes. NY law is 70% on 4 windows for the sedan, and the rear windshield can be any tint you want.

For suv the front needs to be 70% and every other window can be anything.

I guess I just wonder why people put themselves at risk to be harassed by TLC Enforcement.
I've had 70% tints which is legal. It may not look too dark but it's still gives a smoked look and def prevents a heated interior a ton compared with no tints.

It's my understanding that you cannot tint the front two windows (not the windshield) but the two front seat windows AT ALL...the guys at the tint place told me that. SUVs can have dark back windows but sedans cannot --- I thought.

You can 70%

Section 375 (12-a) of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law does not allow a windshield or front side windows that are dark.

  • The windshield and front side windows cannot block more than 30% of the light.
    • Seventy percent or more of the light from the outside must pass through the window.
  • This law also applies to the rear windowunless the vehicle has outside rear-view mirrors on both sides.
    • The mirrors must give the driver a full and clear view behind the vehicle.
  • Rear side windows must also allow at least seventy percent of light from the outside to pass through the window if the vehicle is classified as a
    • station wagon
    • sedan
    • hardtop
    • coupe
    • hatchback
    • convertible

I thought the windows are already allowing 70% in.... if you look at an untinted front seat window, it's darker than looking with the window completely down.

I just want one of those letters from a doctor letting me tint all my windows totally black.

A stock car like a camry or sonata and etc. has no tints at all. They allow 100% of light in.

SUVs come stock with tints, but it maybe 85% which is nothing

Also those letters are for extreme rare diseases, will be hard to get one

Lol yup if you bought it without doing anything then yeah... Stock has no tint.
That's not entirely true, based on your Accord model EX-L and up they do come with a factory green/blue tint. Who knows what percentage it is, it's definitely 75%+ light allowed in and it has no benefits for the user.

I got myself some UV blocking and heat reduction tints that allow 70% light but block 99.9% of UVA and, UVB rays. Expensive but worth it in the long run for my health

You guys are a special kind. Factory glass is 70%. Use a tint meter at the next inspection. Did you ever see glass that allows 100% light in. It doesn't look like car glass.
That's what I was getting at. These guys will tell you anything!

Bronx Audio at 4040 boston rd in the bronx. $130 and it's guaranteed for life. Nice shop and it's where i tint all my cars. Never had a problem once and everything is lined up perfectly. I typically do 20% all around.
This is an amazing place!
