Never start the trip. never ever.

If they beg on their knees. Don't start the trip.

I had this one request in FT Lee high rise. I get there. I do the usually text message about me being there yadda yadda yadda.

She texts back that she will be down soon and to start the trip. Nope

After 5 she still did not come down. I cancelled and left with the cancellation fee of $4.

I checked and the ride was down the block. A min ride.

The trip was started the wheels never Moved- The Passenger Canceled! I received a No show fee, then recieved a Fair adjustment removing the fee. That's what started the Emails to support. Sorry that was not clear

The point of this post is the Pax cam out of hotel w/ out her kids. Got me to start the ride, then said Ill be right back.

Knowing full well her kids and toddler are out of site in the hotel. she then comes back with her family, she thinks she now has power over me to force me to take the trip.

she proudly said she has been using uber for years like this.

Too bad Uber wouldn't side with the drivers and the side of safety and cancel her account. You should have taken a pic and called CSB and made an anonymous tip about how she's endangering her childrens safety by pulling this shit. Only problem is if she lives in a high rise is finding out her exact address to report her.

The passenger is asking you to perform an illegal activity while endangering children.
You cancel, not allowing the illegal request to take place.
The pax says, but all uber drivers take my children illegally.
The passenger simply pings another Uber/Ltft that takes them (illegally).

You fight with Uber for cancel fee, you lose.
Next Uber driver paid in full for performing illegal activity that endangers children.

Uber rewards and encourages the law breakers.
Uber punishes the ones who attempt to obey the law.
After you notify Uber/lyft for reason of cancel with dashcam evidence.
Result= Your cancellation % goes up and you are endangered of being deactivated.
Pax and driver who followed you are never chastised for breaking law but rewarded and evidence of their law breaking ignored by Uber/Lyft with full knowledge that they are breaking the law.

This is a systematic criminal conspiracy and well known and understood and encouraged by Uber/lyft senior, upper and middle management.
One day they will be charged with negligent manslaughter after a child dies in the wrong jurisdiction that truly investigates why the children were not in child/booster seats when the accident took place.
And the defense of "we tell the drivers not to break the law" doesn't work when you pay them to break the law, punish them financially when they don't, and then ignore the 100,000 reports above when Uber/lyft knew the next driver picked up that pax and broke the law and endangered the children. Uber/Lyft knows that this is happening thousands of times every day and does nothing but reward those who do it and punish those who don't.

Uber Senior management knows and encourages this. They are providing the car seats in some markets as evidence that this is not only happening "occasionally" but is a large enough % of their market that Uber is trying to figure out a way to squeeze extra cash out of it while encouraging the practice of no child seats in every other market.

All public prosecutors, charging Uber Upper/Senior Management with manslaughter when this happens will be a great way to get your name in the paper for next years run for public office.

This is not "one driver brook the law and slipped through the cracks".
This is systematic.

My argument in this humongous post is Uber allows this pax to request w.o car seat, and does not pay drivers no show fees. Also pax puts pressure on the driver to break the law, uber does nothing.

The Pax knowingly tricked me to click start ride with her two older kids watching the toddler in the hotel, because she has had this situation happen before.

Uber sticks us with this bad passenger, and does not back the drivers. there casual answer of if your not comfortable with it is just wrong. It indirectly puts additional pressure on the driver to break the law for

I don't think it showed up in the end, I asked Uber can I provide a car seat for a Fee privately? they did not even acknowledge the topic.

I did not receive any fee for this cancel. Uber will not budge. It is just wrong

I know I got scammed. I was hopping to use the video of this to post and monetize some of the stuff i see with uber, but the dash cam just does not do justice to how this transaction went down..

Cigars TY, i really feel your passion in your post. I want it to be better and legal for all of us too! You are right, and its so wrong.

I was hopping that when this instance happened I would do the right thing and have a viral video. what I got, was a passenger enter, confirm name exit my car and then I confront them outside my car off camera. I should have let them Board the car... on dash cam. then have the conversation with in car on CAMERA. the idea that we receive this..." hey if you don't feel comfortable".... nonsense as a work around from uber to put pressure on us even to THINK about breaking the law is so wrong. and to think that it works on drivers that are desparate is just so sad.

Last Sunday morning got a ping, when I arrived, saw 2 huge luggages then followed another 2 luggages, didn't start the trip and ask her how many passengers, she replied with 4 adults, 3 luggages can't even able to fit in my trunk, and she said 1 luggage and sit with them. Cheap pax should've requested XL, I told her no way I can take them to EWR, tell her to request bigger vehicle, and I swiped "too much luggage", thought I will get cancellation fee, but I got no cancellation fee and my cancellation rate increased 5%, this is b/s.

make sure it was 5 minutes. Also, it's always "no show". Never do the other options.

Good job not taking her... the fact that you put the Child Safety ahead of your rating and making a couple dollars says a lot about your integrity.

In my opinion this isn't about the $$$. You lost the chance for the fee the second you started the trip. I never start the trip until all the doors are shut and name and address are confirmed. I don't care what they say. The passenger wins the second you start the trip.
1. On uberX after 2 minutes Rider starts to get charged $0.35 per minute. Whereas if you start the trip you are now only being paid $0.15 per minute.
2. Now if something goes wrong and you have to end the trip now you give the passenger the ability to rate you as you saw with her.
3. You lose the ability to cancel if they take longer than five minutes to get to the car or do some crazy crap like this.

Instead of thinking you lost on this look for something positive out of it. You did the right thing, you showed this witch you're not someone that can be threatened or pushed around when it comes to a stupid rating system that means absolutely nothing about how you are as a driver. You showed her what was more important to you. You were able to notify Uber and note her account appropriately. You may still be able to have her removed from the system if you concentrate on that instead of the fee.

I've only run into this situation twice and both times the parents insisted other uber drivers had taken them without a car seat. Both times I told the parents to cancel and the one was fine with it and I got a ping from her when I was a couple blocks away and ignored it. The other one said she was out running and errands and didn't want to keep up with a car seat and claims she would be the one to get fined not me if pulled over (not sure who would get fined to be honest) and drive safely. I told her I wasn't willing to take the chance of getting in an accident and I always drive safely but that doesn't mean I still won't get in an accident. She got pissy and insisted other drivers did it and when she realized I wouldn't budge said she would just call a taxi.

I'm surprised Uber doesn't do what rental cars companies do and try to profit off car seats. Like Uber X have an option to page an uber that has a car seat and charge the passenger an additional fare

One time I had a couple show up with a toddler and no seat and I told them to get the seat.

The wife immediately said, "Honey, she's right. Please go get it."

He did. He brought the seat back, they secured it and put the kid in while I waited patiently.

It turned out that they were a pair of Pediatricians who knew better and regularly lecture their patients' parents on the matter, but figured that they would do it just because it was a couple of blocks. They ended up appreciating the fact that I forced them to get the seat.

$3.71 ride, $20 tip and five stars.

This was the only time I got absolutely no argument whatsoever from someone who had a child and no car seat.
