That is there, and this is here.
But I also think that all service providers to the public should have a level of English language skill to facilitate reasonable communication with their clients, or pax in our case in the official language of this country, English or at least some accented version of English.

Yes indeed. I've had three Uber drivers in the past two weeks who cant understand a thing I say and simply cannot hold a conversation. Uber standards in Sydney are plummeting on am alarming scale. They just keep flooding the market with drivers regardless of any thought about customer service. It's just too easy to join up. I've had so many passengers complain to me about drivers who simply can't speak English and have no idea how to follow GPS. This is a massive credibility issue for Uber. Someone like Lyft will come in and impose proper standards and IMO clean up.

No 100% English. No drive, pretty simple really.

Uber is comparable with Taxi industry driver standards, I'm sure you don't need English or do a knowledge test to get a taxi license now
They have done away with the Knowledge Test here in Vic as well.

I did mine. I had trouble with one of the test questions.
It was "What is an appropriate question to ask a female rider from the airport?"
Apparently a correct answer was something like "Did you have a nice flight?"

I kept getting it wrong,
"Are you married?"
"Do you have a boyfriend?" and
" Do you live alone" didn't cut it.

Your questions needed to be more directed about her flight and comfort

Do you wear loose underwear whilst flying?
Do you put your head on male passengers lap?
Do you find the hosties attractive?

They would've got you over the line !! lol

While the frustrations about communication and language barriers are understandable, nothing will be done about it - not in Sydney anyway, where there is a massive multicultural population with a humongous number of non-english speakers.

Would you rather they bludge on welfare? I think not.

What sucks is that many live in their comfortable ethnic bubbles and their english will never improve. That's sad...

In an English speaking country, one's English should always be improving. You don't have to be perfect but just not bothering isn't on.
Right. TAFE also give free English classes for new immigrants for their first 5 yrs. Part time or full time.
I am all for immigrants coming here and getting stuck in and having a go .. but if they don't try and stay in the bubble like you said its another thing.

I think it's more then reasonable to expect a service provider to speak English in an English speaking country. I mean it's not like they can't learn the language.

If you didn't get your license from Australia you should have to do an Extra test to become a driver.
This.

It should be a requirement for citizenship. Nothing to see here...
