I was once one of the guys here always complaining about the crap Uber and Lyft pulls but I'm here to tell you it's not going to get any better and it may even get worse I will advise anyone to just simply start looking for a way out I know all of us hate the ideal of punching a Time clock and being on the schedule but get creative like I did compromise a little and get out while you can before you end up like me having to buy yet another car while Uber and Lyft try to throw me 30 cents a mile sometimes even 10 cents a mile... I now drive shuttle vans and then the last 3 weeks I have made around $2,500 in tips while driving someone else vehicle and and burning someone else's gas and receiving $10 an hour base pay... Living proof that Uber and Lyft are replaceable

Ridesharing isn't supposed to be done for a living. It's a "gig" job, leveraging the general public's spare time going in that direction anyway, give someone a ride sort of thing.

Why it pays so little, why drivers don't get paid for returning etc.

There are a few places and certain vehicles Uber does need, pays more and quite possible to scratch out a living doing it full time, but at what cost?

There shouldn't be any jobs that "arn't for a living"

This isn't a hobby like sweeping the beach with a metal detector or selling crap on Etsy.

This is a job done by gwown ups (little kid accent) and is above average in terms of dangerous jobs.

Uber is replacing a long standing industry with one dominated by unfair treatment, horrible emloyee support, and shit pay, sometimes bordering on losing money.

What your talking about is "carpooling" where you are compensated a little bit for giving a ride to someone going the same direction.

If that's what ridesharing was there wouldn't be airport queues, drunk pickups, grocery runs, or anything not involving "Destination filter".

Before uber people made a living driving a cab, and in my market it's still possible to make a living driving a cab, but ironically not driving for the one that's dominating the market. Or lyft, lyft can suck my horn to.

I did $185.00 tips Friday
$227.00 Saturday
$120.00 Sunday.
Plus $8.00 hr & 37 cents a mile going & coming back.
PIZZA PIZZA 🍕

This was well above average.
Worked from open till close.
A driver did not show up.

I made $28.00 plus an hour over weekend.

Got a $26.00 tip on a 2 mile round trip.

Heck of a lot better than the 30 and 40 dollars worth of tips we get with Uber and Lyft per week

Uber RUINED THAT from the Start !

How you think I felt driving in New Orleans !?

Tourists on Vacation giving a bum playing a kazoo $10.00.
I unload & Load all of their luggage . . . They reach in their pocket, hesitate . . . Then give me a handshake !

How many total odometer miles did that take you? Or do you just measure app miles?
You know I really dont know how many miles it took
I dont like that metric anyway it places the value on the car and IMHO I dgaf. The real value is your time
I made enough in my first 5 weeks coming back after the pandemic to pay for the car. In those 9 months I pocketed over $110k. I think I drove 60k miles that year. The amount I saved in taxes was also about enough to pay for the car. Using ubers #s I made $1.66 a mile. Cars are cheap to buy and fix. Worry about getting paid for time and miles wont matter

An interesting perspective, I have to give that some thought. Recently, valuing my time and going for maximum revenue per hour has had the effect of reducing miles, short trips, layering incentives, only going out when it's busy, has gotten me over $40 an hour driving less than 20 miles in a crappy gas guzzling van that doesn't seem to want to die.
