They will go after all the cash earners. They are going to go hard too. Small business are going to get shuttered worse than pandemic. All big box chain stores all chain restaurants. they will also go after onlyfans and other gig workers

No matter what they say, they will be going after lower income people. They already audit very low income people at a higher rate than any other income level - probably trying to recoup government assistance money people claim. But now that the government is requiring online sellers to report income over $600 - think eBay, Facebook Marketplace, Etsy, etc, you know they are going to go after all these small time sellers. You could just be selling your old computer for $600 on eBay, then get a 1099 from eBay that the IRS thinks they get a cut of. Imagine having to figure out the profit and loss on your old unneeded items to sold online. What a nightmare.

SCREW FREEDOM !
Star Trek and Star wars have been indoctrinating us every since then.

Has anyone been on Disney's new ride. Raise of the Resistance ? They create air of you that you have be captured by the Imperial forces and go through deprogramming. I think 98% of the people have no clue and pass it off as, "Oh it's just a Disney ride." yet wait times to get on can be 2 hours. Make sure you get your Genie pass for quicker indoctrination.

Google Indoctrination and look at the pictures on the right.

As for the IRS , I've had my battles, won a few, but You'll never win the war. Know the Internal Revenue Code ( IRC ) pretty well. So, so much for a kinder, gentler service with 87,000 storm troops running around violation every right imaginable. Oh yes, you don't have any rights any more.

Doubtful they will go after the Gig economey as there is no money in it for them. Oh sure they will make an example of one or two because they know fear works wonders on the uninformed. Movie Stars are a get example just before filing season. Ever notice that ?

If anything the courts will make sure they turn Gig workers into Employees so that a W-2 will be obtained and easier for them to track and with hold a protion of your earnings each pay period. If you want it back you will have give up a lot of rights by signing the 1040 for with your Schedule C attached. So don't over state your mileage by so much that you trigger an Audit.

Thank God we live in a free country where one can say and believe (just about) anything they wish. This thread displays the lengths people will go to believe all manner of conspiracies and speculation. Glad I'm boring in comparison but to each his own.

When they say they are not going after those making less than 400k, they are talking about w-2 workers, IC's and and those who claim the EITC will see audits on the rise. use Stride to log all your miles.

That's not what was said. If you make less than $400k but are seriously committing tax evasion you could be in big doo doo. But there will be no attempt to "increase" the focus on those making less than $400k.
This Yahoo News article gives more detail of what the IRS CI division does, which is where most of the 87,000 new IRS agents will be going. The types of crimes talked about aren’t crimes generally associated with corporations or billionaires, but rather with lower classes.

“The “Major Duties” listed in the job description included “a level of fitness necessary to effectively respond to life-threatening situations on the job,” and being “willing and able to participate in arrests, execution of search warrants, and other dangerous assignments.”

This job classification will make up a very small percentage of the overall hires. The need for this type of enforcement goes more to drug dealers and other serious crimes, not to ordinary citizens. Btw, that piece comes from National Review via Yahoo. The intent is to make it appear that ordinary people will be victimized by this. Not a chance; this type of enforcement goes only to serious criminals. Remember how they nailed Al Capone?

Yes and no. If you’re doing side gigs and are not reporting the extra income, you could be audited if the IRS finds out, regardless of your income.

Frankly, I don’t see how the IRS can maintain present audit levels for the lower classes (under 400k) given the amount of side gigs not reported. Remember, Janet Yellen is looking for 7 trillion dollars.

Back in the 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, and into the 80s, the last time they were searching for money, the IRS was into everyone’s business. We were all guilty until proven innocent during an audit. I can remember many bad stories from that time period.

If I remember correctly, part of the Reagan Revolution was for a kinder and gentler IRS. If true, then this aspect of the Reagan Revolution is over. The IRS is looking for money again.

Better have that mileage log (corresponding with the Schedule C) in the glove compartment.

No, the majority of hires goes to enforcement. It was in the video.

Yes, they are going to go after criminals too. That was in the Yahoo article.

Today was the first time I had to put a place a guy on the ignore list. Let him yodel in a canyon by himself.

For something that only affects about 1% of us, an IRS audit seems to be one the biggest fears out there. Let me allay some fears. I was audited about 20 years ago. I had a W2 job back then and some side income. It was the side income that was flagged. They will not accept email, disks, or zip drives. They want all proof on paper. I never hired a tax expert or lawyer. I represented myself and dropped off all of the requested materials. I ended up with an amended return in my favor with a rebate attached. I was in the minority 18% who "win" their audits. I also had nothing to hide. Keep meticulous records and you will be fine.
