One of the many reasons I drive rideshare.
"Passengers shot at and robbed a taxi driver Wednesday evening in the northwest Las Vegas Valley, police said.

A taxi driver picked up two men and two women about 4:50 p.m. When they arrived at their 5850 Sky Pointe Drive destination near North Tenaya Way, the two men demanded the driver's property while brandishing a handgun, police said."

That driver is a friend of mine, he is part of the Elite fleet, you guys have that advantage, not like us that we pick up people not knowing if they have money or that they have a good credit card, that is the main reason I always ask for a cash deposit from almost everyone in North Las Vegas, sad, very sad this happened to him, be safe out there guys.

I hope he's going to be OK. Something like that is going to play with his psyche for a long time. I hope that his boss is understanding and gives him the time he needs to process everything.

Elite fleet? Ha, nothing "Elite" about a taxi. That's just a title your boss gives you so you'll produce more. I'm pretty sure asking for a cash deposit is against the rules. Either everyone gives a deposit or no one does. This is why 90% of the Valley hates taxis. Elite fleet, that's a good one.

The scary thing is that this was the day shift. Is the season to get robbed, spring and Christmas are the two times of year when robberies and assaults skyrocket. I avoid North town like the plague, another benefit of ride-share is we get to choose where and when we work.

In my experience as a taxi driver many (not all) of the drivers being robbed, are being robbed by rival pimps and drug dealers attempting to dissuade the drug dealing or pimp taxi drivers from doing business in their territory.

So what you are saying is when you were driving a taxi, you were a pimp. It's fitting

No, what I am saying is that many of these reports of violence against drivers are the result of a territorial dispute between rival drug dealers / pimps and taxi drivers attempting to cut in their territory.
It was quite obvious to myself and many other drivers who the criminals were in the taxi company. They would get preferential shifts with no seniority, have incredible support from the unions, if they ever got called out. They always made book, even when I would see them spending half there shift parked at a coffee shop or casino. The criminal taxi drivers would even have the gall to drive really expensive cars to work and made no attempt to hide the fact that were involved in drugs or prostitution. Then I would hear that they were robbed at gun point...

No indication of where he picked them up. Sky Point is normally a decent area. Less than two miles from another shooting Tues night in a not-so-nice area at Cheyenne and Jones. Uber gift cards can be used for rides with NO credit card on file. This exposes us all to riding with unknown people, same as taxi's. Along with the video posted yesterday of the driver being attacked last July at Fremont/11th, this has been a chilling couple of days.

Being aware of the criminal actions of your co-workers does not necessarily make you a criminal as well. I, like many of my fellow drivers have figured out legal ways to make side money without running the risk of criminal conviction or the wrath of rival criminals.
If you are telling me that you as a taxi driver, were / are not aware of the criminal activities of some of your co-workers then you are incredibly (dangerously) ignorant.
Another reason I drive ride-share, less criminals, less risk and a lot more freedom...

If you were aware of the laws in Nevada you would know that prostitution is legal under certain circumstances. Taking passengers to a legal bordello in Parhump does not make me a pimp (DOES IT)???

You just said it. You're a ex-taxi driver and taxi drivers are pimp protecting their territorial grounds. And if you know about that then you must be an ex-pimp. I guess it wasn't that lucrative as an ex-pimp huh

No need for conspiracy theories. Taxi drivers are known to be carrying cash and bad people will target what they feel is easy prey. Especially after being driven to their territory.
