I was at MetLife last week in the Uber queue for the Country Concert waiting for it to surge higher before taking a ride. There was a driver next to me who was on the phone trying to direct his pax to find him. At that point the Uber surge was 1.8x and Lyft was still base rate. The driver waved his phone to me and looked very excited like he wanted to talk. I asked him why he wasn't canceling on his pax since they were past the 5 minute mark. He told me that this was too good of a ride to pass up since it was a long ride. It was a BASE RATE Lyft ride to Asbury Park. I tried to explain to him how that was horrible, but he insisted so I just shook my head. I waited until the surge hit 2.9x (I know it went higher) and got a ride into NYC and made $80 including tip (after tolls) for driving 10 miles. SMH.

There has to be new and old in any growth business. I always felt it was always wiser to clue the new people in. I am going to assume nobody gets in his or her gets in to this because they are lonely. They need the money. At this end if my career I would rather help a young person who has a family possibly. Means more to me. Slow and steady wins the race. I have driven multiple cities and many friends who share with me as well. Best of all and remember God loves all, even old maid, selfish Uber drivers

I wasn't selfish. I tried to show him that he was taking a bad ride, but he insisted that he knew what he was doing and that I was wrong.
At least you tried to educate a person who is less fortunate than yourself. You will find that this gig has many many facets, and as many mentally challenged drivers to go with it. Eventually you will be sitting at the right hand of God (Lepke) and preaching the same sermon he has been preaching about the fellow drivers and the pox we drive. You become very much hardened by the "Special kind of stupid's" you are going to meet, and you will get tired of trying to help them. Goober has created this gig to be as competitive as possible, they discourage camaraderie in each and every way.

Counterpoint: what if the driver was from Central Jersey? That ride would have dropped him AP while it was jamming and set him up for a last call ride at a shore rate.

I don't do MetLife, but everyone has their own strategy. You can't just think about the current ride; you have to think about the business for the next one too.

Also, dumb question because I don't do MetLife; can you use destination filters there?

I don't either, but they have a Q. I've been in several of them and you can't use the DF in any of them.

That said, if the Q gets low enough and the demand is there, it will work.
