Hey, I'might new to Uber, and driving in Tacoma. I have been watching the app since about 11 and was surprised to see few surges!
I usually notice surges start between 12:30-1am on weeknights. I did notice there are a lot of drivers on the road tonight. Has anyone noticed a pattern for weekend nights in Tacoma? Thanks

Wait until the college kids/school teachers go back next month and all the new hires give up.

Frankly, after the rate cuts and increased commission I just don't see Tacoma as profitable except for special events.

Really, really sad because I much prefer Tacoma passengers over Seattle passengers.

We'll see what Lyft does with their rates when they return to Tacky-Tack-Oh-Mah.

Tacoma doesn't feel profitable without a 2.0+ surge.

Why do you prefer Tacoma pax over Seattle? So far I've gotten 4 low ratings and don'the understand why... I'm mostly working 11pm -2am crowds.

You made me smile! 4 low ratings! Yeah, they're definitely harsher with the ratings in Tacoma - I drive the bar crowd as well. Tacoma is more generous with tips than Seattle and the people are more down to earth.

I think I prefer Tacoma pax over Seattle because there are more blue collar/military in Tacoma and I just prefer them over self absorbed/over paid entitled IT millennials and sycophant phony two faced support admins.

Hey, you asked ;-P

Hey y'all! I'm new to this site so crossing fingers that I'm following the proper rules of engagement by posting my question here.
Wondering if anyone has advice on how to check surge rates/times/zones for Tacoma?
I typically drive in Seattle due to the fact that, as we all are aware, the $ is far more reliable there. There are those days though where I'm not up to making the commute to King Co and would rather stay in Pierce. The Uber app doesn't show surge rates for me ever... Even when driving around Tacoma.
Help please on where or how I can possibly find up to date info?
If it's only possible by changing cities, does anyone know a work around?
Appreciate any input!!!

1.4 surge in Pierce equals base rate in King, Snohomish etc.

It isn't. Even a 2.0 surge is kinda low compared to the rates around Pierce co.

I do enjoy Tacoma pax, too. More down to earth folks, in general. I can even handle the country western types, so long as we don't talk politics or the latest country hits. lol

You're good... you could have started a new thread but since it's close to the same topic...

It could just be you're not there during a surge.

I'm curious:
-Is your driver app showing surge in Seattle/outside of Tacoma?

-Were you permitted to drive in Tacoma previous to Uber opening it up to all? i.e. Do you have a City of Tacoma business license, took the city's knowledge test, etc?

If your app is showing surge outside of Tacoma, and you weren't previously a Tacoma permitted driver, I wonder if there's a glitch? I know when I'm over in OlyPen (Olympic Peninsula zone) I can't see surges for Seattle until I am in that zone. Perhaps the opening of Tacoma to Seattle drivers isn't a full, cart blanche opening? So while you're there, able to accept rides you're not fully there within their system. Have you received surge rates in Tacoma?

You can work around this by using a second party app to monitor surges. "Surge 2x" [by Duncan] allows you to see your current area (& I think 1 other?) without buying the premium version. It might only be iOS though. There's another copycat app "Surge" [by Sudu] that might be available non iOS format that the reviews say it only shows your current location.

***Caveat.... since Uber is separating what the pax is charged from what the driver's paid ... these apps may be losing their accuracy.

Yes. Good app. Definately get it. Runs on my side phone. I don't know how people play surges without tools like that.

His lyft app needs updating though. When pt starts getting high, pins will stick and won't update for 5+ min. Worst I've seen is 30min stuck. Other pins will update while the pin is stuck. Wrote the dev half a dozen times with the bug report. No answer and no update.
