Hi all,
Just wanted to make as many people aware of the scam Uber is pulling. I accepted three rides that were all in a 3.8x surge area. I didn't receive any surge at all. Contacted uber support and they gave me the generic explanation about how surge pricing works. No shit....I know how it works. I also know that I took a screen shot of my phone at 10:42 showing a huge map of red area at 3.8x. I asked Uber to look at the location of the pick up because I am certain it was within the area. They claimed it was not surging at the time and location I picked up.

Absolutely no way in hell!!! It was surging for at least 40 minutes between 3.1 and 4.9x. Address was definitely in the surging area. Total scam and Uber did nothing about it even after I proved them wrong. See attached screen shots.

I added one more screen shot showing the time 10:42 of my accepted ride. Same time of the screen shot of my surging map. Address is definitely within surging area. Its bullshit! I definitely should have received surging price and Uber won't make right on it. Switching to Lyft...uber is a crook!

This happened to me and I've sent in the screenshots with timestamps and they swear the pax app was not surging even though I proved to them that the driver app was. They said it could have dropped surge in the seconds it took me to take the pic. I said according to the driver app, it was surging for about 45 minutes (multiple screenshots). I lost my argument and only went online (it was an odd time for me in the middle of the afternoon on a Saturday) because of the surge. But didn't get a single surge ride. I was in the middle of the surge and so were the pax.

Good to hear that Im not the only one getting scammed, but we need to get to the bottom of this. How can they possibly argue screenshots with timestamps? Unreal! Thanks for responding.

They said that immediately after the timestamped screenshots, surge stopped then next few minutes surged happened again, I took a screenshot, then it magically disappeared the next second. This happened 3 times. LOL.

I solved the problem on my end. I rarely, if ever, drive for Uber. When I drive I stick to Lyft.

Been there. I once picked up a passenger on a freezing cold, Valentine's day outside of a major city's major arena when a major show had just let out. Randos were coming up to me trying to get in my car, telling me that no Uber rides were available, per Uber. The area was surging around 3.9x. But when I got home that evening, my surge rate was 1.5. I contacted CS and was told I must not have been in the higher surge area. Yeah, right.

Why doesn't anybody screen shot the ping showing the surge? I always do. If your phone can take a screenshot, then you can use any number of third party screen shot capture apps. You can set it to take a screen shot every time you shake the phone, say, "screenshot" holding down the up and down volume key together, etc.

yes when the ping comes in.. look for the surge multiplier next to the rating of pax...

also I think it is well known that the driver app is like 5 minutes behind with the heat map showing surge.

best to use rider app to really see if you are indeed in the surge area.

In my case, that was the problem. None of the pings were surge even though we were both in the surging area.

Again, in my case, the driver app showed surge for about 30-45 minutes straight, yet no surge pings while both ping and I were right in the heart of the surge. That's why it was fraudulent. They lured me to drive based on the surge, yet it didn't pay out. And I didn't even drive to the surge. It was already in my area and that's the only reason I logged on.

After reading posts above ,from other patron drivers who have been scammed , it is very clear in my mind UBER has been trying to "Scam" the drivers of their lively hood for making few extra bucks, I do not understand why would anyone would consider driving for UBER, when you know the odds are against the driver, it like a "Casino" where "House" always wins, not matter which way, it is a rigged game.

New tactic is to Surge Select only! Appears there is surge, but not for X requests. Biggest Insult is no one wants Select anyway. It s a deceitful practice to lure X drivers to that red area.

there's a good 5 minute delay on the drivers app when a surge ends and before it updates the app..Surge ends, pax gets notified surge is over, drivers flooded with calls before the driving app reflects no surge.. If there's no surge on the ping, I don't answer it. My acceptance rate?? It sucks!!
Will Uber deactivcate?? Whatever!!

Also, abington, willow grove area is usually surging on XL only. Not x. You have to check the rider app. The philly burbs surges are usually not uberx. They are uber xL surges. I find that the uber x surges outside the city are usually happening in Levittown area where dui's are a local pastime favorite.

The whole idea behind Uber was to put those pesky cabs out of business that were overcharging for a trip. Yet, here we are reading posts that complain the "surge" isn't properly screwing the customer out of more money.

You guys need to make up your minds. Either be cheaper than cabs, or just admit the fees cabs were charging have been more than fare.

Funny how the cost of operating your Ubermobil smacks your forehead with a reality check of what it costs to operate a cab.

And you don't even have to buy commercial insurance...yet you people STILL complain.

This stuff is too funny. Ya just can't make this stuff up! :)

Don't trust the driver application for surge multiplier. It’s always wrong because it's on delay (30 seconds or so). Always go by the Pax application in your area and see if it's surging or not and for exact multiplier. When ping comes in, pay attention to surge symbol below the circle, it shows the surge multiplier (x) number next to it. Also, when accepted request, make a rule to check the trip detail prior to pick-up. It also shows a surge number as well as a pax address. I hope it helps.
