This week marks my second month driving for Uber in the Bay Area. I drive mostly in San Francisco, Oakland and Berkeley.
Here are a few things I'd like to share.
- The first 4 weeks. I earned $550-$800 per week. I worked from 30-45 hours per week ( my app online ). I averaged 80-120 trips per week.
- The second 4 weeks. I earned $1,250-$1400 per week with the 20% Power Driver Rewards that I qualified driving 30-45 hours on 100-125 trips per week.
- Each week, I spent about $100 on gas, $50 on toll over the bridges. I also spent about 1 case ( 24 bottles ) of water for me to drink while driving and for some passengers that are on long trips or when they ask for water. I also spent about $10 for car wash. Yes I go to that tokens car wash and do it myself.
- I drive 10 hours each on Saturday and Sunday. I drive about 3 hours a day from Monday-Friday and still be able to keep my full time main job.
* I think driving for Uber helps me earn pretty good amount of money. Cost of living in the Bay Area is so expensive. I have a family where both of us work full time but with the cost of living so high, our saving rate is very low. So earning extra and putting that money into savings for a down payment of a house in 2-3 years is doable if I keep on driving for Uber for another year or so.
I have no complaints since this driving is very flexible with my main job. Whenever I want to drive then I drive, driving more hours or less is all up to me, not up to Uber or anyone else.
I have not had any bad experiences with the passengers. I don't stay over 11 pm. Most of my passengers are really nice. Friendly and they even share their stories during the trips. Some of them invited me to the Warriors Games. Some Invited me to the club for dancing in San Francisco. Some gave me their numbers just in case we ever want to hang out.
I also sign up for UberRush. These past few weeks, I drove on an average of 6-10 UberRush per week. Mostly delivery pizza, burgers. I didn't like it one time where I received a request that was 6 miles away to pick up a freaking cheesesteak burger and delivered it to a different direction for another 5 miles for about $10 net pay. However, Uber gave me $4 per UberRush trip so it's not it's not too bad. I still like UberX and UberPool but it's okay to do UberRush. I think if Uber gets strong then I can keep on working and earning.
The new Power Driver Plus this week is awesome, you can earn $500 extra if you complete 120 trips per week. This is also doable. I know it's tough but think about $500 extra is worth it. I mean, a job that sits in your car and drive around to earn money is better than working in the fast foods or factories, at least that what I think. If one day I don't like driving then I just quit.
