Uber and Lyft really need to evaluate the over saturation of drivers and stop incentivizing the signing up of new ones. Other services such as Instacart, or even Amazon, determine when they no longer have a demand for new delivery drivers and will limit how many can be active during that time. I know that rideshare companies would like a car on every corner, but flooding a market with too many can lead to a lot of problems and ultimately hurt the image of both the company and the industry.
I’ve spoken to several people recently who had just started driving - and they possessed no social skills, vehicles that would surprise me if they passed inspection, and had generally poor attitudes toward ridesharing. Countless times I have had pax tell me of their bad experiences with other drivers, and I have have a strong feeling that much of this can be attributed to loose standards and an over abundance of unqualified drivers. I feel bad for those pax who get into dirty and unsafe cars, as well as those of us who care enough to keep up on the maintenance of our vehicles.
This morning, as I was tidying up my car in my driveway, I noticed an unfamiliar and severely-dented SUV parked in my cul-de-sac with the Uber app open on their dash and their engine off. I do not live in a congested area or anywhere that would be a “hot spot” for picking up pax, so I found this odd. As I drove past them, I couldn’t help but notice that their bumper was barely hanging on and that they were missing a mirror. Glad we are being so well represented.
