I think it's reserved for someone special. Special pax only get stars.

Seen it tonight. Only star appears on ping. Surge was too weak. 1.5-1.9.

I was told by Lyft that when that happens it's a newer passenger that doesn't have enough ratings, meaning that the previous driver low rated them and until they have enough scores to bring them up; only a star will show.

As far as I know , uber gives new pax 5 stars from the start
