Has anybody else gotten caught by that creepy squeegy guy at the bottom of the Poydras St. downramp by the Superdome? I had to open my window and yell at the guy to get the hell off my windshield. I don't have much of a problem with the majority of these bums, but when they knock on my window and start getting aggressive and attacking the windshield with a squeegy, I got a big problem.
When riders start asking about the panhandlers I have to force myself to not badmouth them too much in case the passengers are sympathetic to the poor people who would rather beg for money than work for it. I guess the only good thing I can say about "Squeegy Guy" is, at least he's providing a service (even if you don't want it) as opposed to able bodied young people standing there holding a crappy sign telling drivers to just give them a specific amount (50 cents or $1). I'd rather give a few bucks to the kids in the French Quarter who tap dance in the heat for tips.

I had a rider that was from Sweden. A mid 20s girl that said it was her first time in the USA. She went to NYC for a few weeks and is now visiting NOLA. She commented that her impression of the USA is that there are plenty of poor people, she says that in Sweden you never see people begging in the streets like she has seen in NYC and NOLA.

They have up to 60% tax in Sweden
Some parts of Canada too.

The poor people from Sweden don't get to come to New Orleans.

I don't know if it's the same guy, but we use to catch a dude who did the same thing when I did EMS in the area back in 2011-13.

If one of my pax ever asks about the homeless in NO, I tell them about the time I was dropping a patient off at the VA on Perdido. Dude came up and told me he was a homeless vet and needed money to get back on his feet. I pointed out that the VA was just a couple blocks over and he should make that his first stop. He gave me the finger and said no one appreciates veterans anymore.

Exactly.....The working folks in Sweden support the bums to the point that they don't have to beg for money on the streets. They're also given free housing, so you can't actually call them homeless, but they are in fact "Bums" who don't work and will never work because they live off of the working folks' extremely high taxes.

I hate that guy. I had just washed my car, and shined it up... and this butthole comes and puts his dingy gutter water on my windshield! He lifted my wipers in the air, so i turned them on, and hit him in the face with it!! The riders i had got such a kick out of it. I was pissed! $15car wash down the drain

Ive seen him from a distance & he obviously has a mental issue, you can tell by the intense way he washes the windshield, and then just awkwardly stands there....I was raised here and I remember being a kid and they banned all that panhandling....I remember only the Nation of Islam people were allowed to sell that $1 bag of fruit & waters....but I guess after Katrina they couldn't enforce that anymore, with all the people being displaced

Has anybody, especially you drivers from the westbank, noticed the female panhandler who is always at the bottom of the Tchoupitoulas bridge downramp is all of a sudden 8 months or so pregnant. Last week she was slim and trim and now she's got a huge baby-bump!

There's a few running that scam. There's one woman at the Poydras St/Superdome exit that looks every bit of 55 who is sporting the baby bump. Sometimes she has a couple of mixed race children out there with her and a younger interracial couple with a baby are sitting close by. I know its hard out here for a pimp when he's trying to get this money for the rent. But teaching children to beg? And playing on the sympathy of good people to give them money? Pathetic. Then again, they are probably making more $$$ than uber drivers.
