Last night a woman told me about the following experience she had with a Somalian driver.
Dude picked her and friend up in downtown. Destination : cc club uptown.
They arrive and he goes, "oh no, I forgot to "start trip". Do you have cash so I can get paid?"
After much haggling her friend gave the guy a 10 spot. He drives away and she receives an email from Uber for a $6.6 trip she just completed. She was pissed and gave the guy a "1".

I told her she should've contacted uber and gotten her fired.

Another thing they do is beg for a 5 at the end of trips. They go, "good service, yes?" "Please give me a 5"

I'm getting really frustrated. These guys have totally saturated the market
They have an incestuous relationship with cabbies, so they are constantly bunched together around 5th and 1st, Lagoon and Fremont, and any other area that is busy.

Ah...little Mogadishu.

I wouldn't just blame Somalis though.

I heard of one guy (coincidentally Somalian), who pulled up in a heavy morning snow...person was late for the airport and he demanded $40 to go that far. They ended up paying him, as he was 10 minutes away. I wouldn't want to take that ride without insurance.

The scam was not justifiable (original post), but in my opinion this particular airport ride was justifiable. I am trying to be fair here. Uber drivers are independent contractor anyway, especially in this hazardous driving condition, the driver could have denied the trip. $40 may be reasonable in this circumstance.
