I drive with Lyft. With the minimal amount of snow compared to last January, things will try to remain open. I have a F150 4X4 that will be ready to drive, rubber mats, and plenty of coffee. Historically speaking, is there big money demand. Obviously it is about locality of the ping. Not worth driving 30 min to get a rider but if you are within, I call that 5 min area at 300-500 or more % its a gig. Especially if my Fed Gov job shuts down.

Thanks for this! I drive a focus but I'm from Buffalo so this should be cake :)
It should be . You can be the best driver on snow in the world but that won't help when a guy in his rear wheel drive Pinto careers into you. It's the other wankers on the road you have to worry about, especially your fellow fuber and Lyft drivers who can't even drive well in perfect conditions.

True but that's what their insurance is for and their insurance paying out. They accept the risk. Trust me...me in my 4X4 gets hit by someone out of control, I am going to be having neck and back pains for sure!!!!! $$$$$

This snow storm seems to be one of those "it doesn't look to bad let me go out and do some work shopping etc" storms. It's where people overestimate their ability to drive because it's not 2 feet. Couple that with the fact no one has really done any winter driving this year I think the roads are gonna be full of wrecked and disabled cars. I won't be driving. Making a few hundred, if you don't get stuck yourself, isn't worth the time you'll be out of work when Johnny uber driver who's been driving for all of 2 months total wipes you out

Like I said...I wont get stuck I have a nice F150 4X4 loaded with sand. And if some idiot hits me...perfect. Just total it...for me. Because when they hit me...I am sure it will cause me to slide into the wall and damage more. Sounds like a new truck and big insurance payout for me.

Just make sure your insurance is for uber etc. Also make sure if a snow emergency is declared you know the rules and all. There's alot of myths and rumors rolling around when and where you can drive and for what reasons when those are declared and it varies state to state and policy to policy

last year, 2 days after the big snow storm. I made 250ish in about 4 hours in ashburn/leesburg area. all rides were 4.5+ surge. was blood red all day. it was a bit more surgy because folks were stuck inside with cabin fever and parking lots were buried. i did a handful of rides "I just need to get out, take me to gas station..." 17$ for 10 mins of driving? sure...
this storm wont be that bad...

good luck to you...

The best advice I can give anyone, as a person from New England is ...

DRIVE LIKE YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO BRAKES.
NONE.
You will figure out that perhaps that 'space' you thought you had behind that other car, not enough.
That speed you're going? Way too fast.
And in certain instances when you want to go up a hill, you MAY BE GOING TOO SLOW (weird, I get it, but if you have no brakes, you can't depend on them to 'stop' you in case you are sliding, so you need momentum).
It's strange but people don't get any of this.
Also, if the car slides just a bit, assume your car is ON A SKATING RINK and drive accordingly. Any turn, curve is a potential hazard.

THIS.

Or is it "that". Anyway...yup!

Even if you have all the proper insurance, when someone hits you,
you're going to be deactivated and unable to work for a while until
the investigation is completed and insurance settled and repairs made.
Is that $35 terrifying surge ride worth being out of commission for weeks?

Tuesday is work-on-my-resume day this week.

After the blizzard last year, I drove the day after, but with so much snow, 18inches or so, I drove only within 7 miles of my house, It wasn't worth it. Mostly people wanting a ride home from grocerystore or Walmart. Now 2 days later I drove in DC in rushhour evening time. But DC still hadnt cleared the roads (side roads especially), so many pax would cancel on me becuase you couldnt get anywhere in decent amount of time.
- I think there will be a good amount of people going out shopping, etc. to get out of the house.
- I do think airports will be surging and crazy busy tom. afternoon through Wednesday.

Anyone out driving this morning? How is it?
They haven't even plowed my street in Fairfax yet.
Never mind slipping and sliding with dangerous morons ---
I am simply debating whether to stay in my jammies all day or not.

Surge is 1.6 in my suburban VA neighborhood (where it never ever surges ever),
and it is 1.6 to 2.6 in much of D.C. (9:10 AM)

Forecast is 85-50% chance of a couple more inches of snow until 3 PM,
followed by rain. Temps will be in the 20s (so that means freezing rain + ice),
and down to 12 F at night (ice ice ice). No precip after 6 PM or tomorrow.
Did I mention ice?
