Just curious to see what everyone thinks...

Do you think the areas uber places for Tampa bay are to large?

My feeling is that they are. During the week I occasionally will log in while at home for XL only (or uberx if it under a surge). I live in Oldsmar and my "home" area extends all the way to the veterans Expressway. sometimes the area is in surge but I feel maybe most of the fares are on the other side of my gigantic area.

The area around Clearwater gets lit up all the time but it stretches all the way down to the Leahlman area which makes no damn sense. Dunedin Palm harbor is the same.

Yes. Some of them are ridiculous. You may be in a surge area but you still need to know where the hit spots are. The temple terrace surge area is huge. Usually it's just the hard rock casino.

Wouldn't it be beneficial to have a large area? If only a small pocket is causing the surge for a larger area, dosent that benefit drivers?

In theory bigger areas would be good when your in it, but I think the smaller areas would give drivers a better chance to earn more by going to where the people are requesting ride. The heat map they give you weekly is worthless

I would think if one looked at the large Uber surge areas and the heat map, one could surmise where the people actually are at in some of those surges. Idk... Just my two cents

I mean yeah you can make an educated guess sure, but I don't trust those heat maps.

It could be made up for all I know. I believe the live map more.

I've sat in 2x surges for 20 minutes or more and no pings, or I get pings from outside the surge area. I've found them to be less about actual demand and more about Uber trying to distribute drivers. Their goal is to have drivers all spaced out (no pun intended, lol) and ready so that passengers don't have to wait regardless of whether or not it's good for the drivers.

And, yes, the surge areas should be smaller. Kennedy and Gandy should not be in the same surge area and SoHo should be on its own.

Can you ask him about this since you are at the meeting?

Sorry, I'm no longer there. But they are at the Sheraton Suites on Cypress until 4 (I think). Go now and ask them whatever you like. Unless I missed something, it wasn't really a meeting. When I RSVPed for a certain time period, I thought it was going to be more formal than what it was. I got there about 10:45, walked into a room with 2 guys sitting with Macs at a table in front, each talking to one guy, there was a sign-in sheet on a table in the back, and several people sitting in chairs waiting to talk to the guys in front. I signed in, sat down and waited my turn. I asked my questions and left about 11:20. That was it.
