UBER seems to operate on the principle that it's a ethical and law abiding company but should governments and the public trust UBER's algorithm that's controlled in Califoria and away from the scrutiny of Australian regulators and the public that use the service?

What if UBER charge the passenger a seperate rate to what they pay the driver. Shouldn't the public be aware of what rate they are one and if it's the the one that they ordered their UberX on? Seems only fair that the passenger should know the exact cost of the fair before leaving.

Shouldn't the passenger also have the ability to stop payment or not be charged if there is a discrepancy in the price?

Shouldn't there be a direct resolution phone line instead of a distant and cold email?

Wouldn't fixed taxi meters solve these problems and provide some long overdue transparency into UBER's business model instead of blindly trusting a company that quite frankly has a less than stellar reputation for playing by the rules?

Let's Discuss...

Once again, pointless rubbish. Discuss how people are gouged by numerous taxi drivers, how taxi drivers change the flag fall and how before Uber, used to demand large cash amounts on Friday and Saturday night before allowing a passenger in the car, taxis very own surge pricing, forget what the meter says. Lets discuss why a taxi driver drove off without giving my father his change from the $100 note he gave the driver and how the operator at Black and White Scabs asked him what he wanted her to do about it. When told that the cab could be tracked she told him no we can't do that and hung up on him. Let's discuss the 2 phones stolen by cab drivers from him also, not to mention thousands of other poor taxi passengers.
Let's discuss drivers not taking directions and deliberately going the long way to bump up the fare, how does the meter prevent this, well it doesn't but the Uber app does. Let's discuss the driver who told my rider the other day how a driver said we have to rip off taxi passengers because it's the only way to make money.
Fish you seem to be the dumbest taxi owner in Australia, only the Uber type system can cover all the things you mentioned because taxis have for years ripped off consumers using these government approved meters.
Ummm, you seem unaware that credit card companies and PayPal allow you to challenge all charges.
Email is the only point of contact for many businesses now, again your sheltered life may mean you have not encountered the many thousands of companies that do this. Google, Facebook, Twitter, Bingle and the list goes on. Not the nicest way of doing business.
Yawwwwn, another spanking delivered, don't you get bored?
Been over this stuff a million times, it's all old news, move on Fish get a hobby.

Just 1 comment on the reference to taximeters; this is one instance of where they absolutely failed to use technology.

The flagfall changes at a certain time of the day, and yet it was left to a human to change it????

This could have easily been programmed into the chip inside the meter, thereby giving taxi companies a technological assurance to the customer base that they could not be ripped off.

Did they even think of this? Heck NO

Flagsfalls in taxis change automatically now. Drivers can't manually override it.

Same goes for tolls. They are detected automatically now and are added to the fare. Driver can't add tolls to the fare anymore.

Thanks for the update, been a few years since I sold my licenses; so the earlier post was a little bit misleading and he is also living in the past :D

As usual Snowman... you're like 10 years behind the facts. I mean why do you even bother? You're not driving for UBER and you've got no skin in the Taxi game... is it that you sold your licences on the cheap, miss the income and the grind and all you got is jealously to keep you company?

On your way "uncle Arthur"
