I get a lot of surge pings from my Surge app in my area. Or I look at the app and its red. I get up and sign on and no requests. I actually live where I literally can turn it on, sit in house and just wait for pings. Or I'm in deep red and the pay is only So I finally looked at my surge app to see why its always making me get up and out sometimes for nothing and noticed a lot f times its just Select and XL. So just to make sure, does it mean that its surging because its a lot of request for those two? Or because its not enough in the area?

It could be just the opposite. They may have a customer just outside of the surge area and no drivers around. And they do the surge just to get a driver in the area.
I made the same observation lately. Been chasing large red spots on my app. But when I get there not a single surge request. I was like someone musy be doing this on purpose just to get drivers there.

The app I use shows exactly whats surging though. I live in a heavy surge area any way. So when yu open, it specifically lists each service and the surge. It will have Pool , X, Select, SUV, and XL. It lists what every service is surging as and sometimes they are surging at different rates. Like sometimes X is surging, but not XL and Select and so on. Someone on here was complaining about how its never select request but sometimes it goes off a lot only on Select and XL. I know a lot of business people use it and that' the type of area I live in. The thing with it, they said Uber did something with the API so now they cant tell what the surge rates are unless you are actually in the area.

THIS IS THE VERY REASON YOU DONT CHASE SURGES but you are doing good to make it there, when ever I get even close to a red surge it shrinks and disappears before I can get there. Yesterday there was a surge on the way home I was not looking to pick up but the app was on and i headed right toward a surge ( my route anyway) before I could get to it it got smaller and dissappeared

I never chase surges for the reasons you mentioned. I do enjoy them when they are where I was headed to anyway though.

Funny thing though, ths seems to be when Fubar sends me Pool runs 16 minutes away. Strange thing, that.
