Do other drivers in LA ask passengers to put sealed booze in the trunk? I had a guy with a 6 pack of glass bottles. If I understand right it's legal in the back seat but the risk is they might open it?

If you put them in the trunk they're going to roll around back there. I wouldn't worry about wine. It's pretty hard to open a wine bottle without you hearing it. Besides most people aren't such lushes they can't white knuckle it for the 5 minutes it takes to get them home.
