Just FYI, PSA, IYGAD, etc.

I have used, and suggested, DU Recorder (current 2.1.3.2) from playstore. It does what I need, but can take a pretty good chunk of RAM when it's running. There are many others in the playstore as well. DU has ability to record live and edit videos. I edit on the desktop. I do sometimes use for screenshots since it is faster. DU has a price tag, I use free version and block ads by blocking access to internet via appops and firewall.

Found another app, ScreenCam (current 2.0.2) from fdroid (app dist based on open-source). ScreenCam isn't as full featured as DU, but runs in smaller RAM footprint. It is screen recorder only, and apparently does it very well. not many other bells and whistles though it offers greater control over capture density and bit-rates. It is also free on fdroid (open-source) though there is a non-free plugin you can buy (playstore) if you need it.

Can a link be posted here to fdroid store?

CYA.
I have found trips have 'disappeared', particularly unescorted minors, and the screen recording is only thing I have to assert my claim for cancelations.

I have also used them to push for a cancel fee when it wasn't paid when Pax cancelled. U & L both stated within 2 minutes, but notice didn't appear on my device for longer. I have record to prove it.

I have also used it when Pax accused me of taking round-a-bout route, but was actually at their direction. Yeah, I record audio as well. Have used to document other problems with Pax that dashcam didn't get (windnoise on dashcam).

Given who we drive for, why would you *Not* record the entire time you drive?

I have a dash cam to record. However I see no benofit to record the phones screen. To me it's a waste of memory.

To each their own. If your dashcam fulfills your needs, then don't use a screen recorder.

I find using both enhances my ability to defend myself and collect stolen monies.

for what it's worth, dashcam captures an extreme but usable angle of phone as well. Only valid when footage is saved / marked. I have had to refer to DC footage when screen recorder crapped the bed.

Dash cam saved my ass a few weeks ago. Pax said I touched her and sexually propositioned her. The footage wasn't great but it showed her in the backseat and showed I did not exit my car. She said she was upfront and that I exited the vehicle.

I upgraded my dash the day I was cleared. The new camera is fantastic. I have a 128gb card and it records in a loop. It will record 15 hours or so. If anything seems off, even a tiny bit I can upload the video to my phone wirelessly. Plus I have a spare card.

I do have an app that will record video while the screen is off, I've used it several times outside of the car.

For cancels a screenshot of the way bill will suffice. For a poor route claim nothing is going to override the GPS data.

I had become complacent with dash cam, it was unreliable. Work one day not the next, work for 3 days then not for 2 weeks. I should have replaced it a year ago. I was lucky that it worked that day.

I now have a blackvue something or other. I highly recommend upgrading to a quality DC not so much for uber, but to protect yourself

It's not much of a stretch to go from scamming a free ride to suing Uber because the driver did something. Even a false accusation could have life altering effects.

Speaking of quirky dashcam...
I am using a Rexing V1P, dual cam, for the last year or so. Darn thing has started becoming flaky. Will be driving along and then all of a sudden it will report no memory card. I think I have narrowed it down to wear and tear of card slot contacts.

When I replace it, probably going to get one of those adapter cables. 1 end plugs into camera where card would normally go, other end has a slot for either sdcard or micros card. Much cheaper to replace cable assy (less than $15 at Amazon) than to replace camera. SD sure are a lot cheaper, though I haven't found any "endurance" media in that size. Will probably just keep using micros media. Don't want to use microsd adapters, those are nearly all just junk.

I think if done right, dashcam can still be stolen, but card itself will remain in a more secure location. Those 3 cam dashcam sure are looking tempting.

But so is a dvr/nvr with solid-state media. Also working on that research as well.
