Uber officially announced that it is killing off Uber Select in California. This is one of the last states that the platform exists. Uber started systematically killing it off on the East Coast and it has finally made its way to California. Uber select was a platform where customers could order entry-level luxury cars and was extremely popular in the late 2010s.
In a official message to drivers they lied and said the drivers have said that the platform is too similar to other offerings. But when you look at the official messages that they’ve sent out to drivers in other states, it says that they believe that it’s too similar to other offerings that they have.

Now that there’s no Lyft Lux, there’s no reason to keep Uber Select around in California. Some believe that this is a way for Uber to have nicer more premium cars on Uber comfort and UberX upgrading Passenger experiences. UberX will be pulling the pug on select on January 3, 2024.
