Riders taking you through the drive-thru...

Anybody had experience with this? Just a warning, I learned my lesson. I'm only a month in.

I picked up a group of young college guys and asked them where we were headed. They said, "Cookout". I didn't know what "Cookout" was, but figured I was dropping them at a restaurant. When we got there, "Cookout" appeared to be a very popular drive-thru only spot. I tried to let them out and they then told me we were going through the drive-thru. We waited in a 15-20 minute line so they could order food! Meanwhile, I could have been accepting another ride. The whole experience took an hour. Not to mention the extremely offensive music they played the whole way. Granted, I let it all happen without a fuss in order to get my fare.

At least now if people let me know we're going to a popular drive-thru I can decline.

In another case, a group asked me if I could wait while they ran into the gas station. I agreed and they bought me some lottery scratchers and a drink, which was a nice gesture. A similar situation where I felt respected and not taken advantage of.

Would love to hear similar stories!

This was a $50 mess..... If they treat my vehicle live a trash can, they get charged for it!
What is the round yellow thing?
It depends. If it's the end of the night, or a 3x surge, why not take them; however if it's a busy time for pick ups, then it doesn't make sense. I too have done the 1 hour drive thru thing, but it was going to be my last trip, I didn't know we were going to a drive-thru so once I saw what was going on it was hard to say no as the inside was closed. However, I stuck to my no eating in vehicle policy & although I got a $37 fare on what would of been $12 for a drop off and they didn't eat in the vehicle, I think one of the U of M college guys ripped my 3rd row seat out of spite.
My question, Hammer & others, although you can refuse the trip in the beginning if you notice potential food, but what do you do or say when you notice them eating after the trip has begun? How do you say it?
Nothing. It's too late. You say something to make them stop now, and you risk them doing something intentionally in retaliation.

If you think passengers have any respect for you as an Uber driver in 2015, you're mistaken. Some people do, but they are also the ones that tip and were glad to pay the higher rates when Uber had them. Now in 2015, with both the anti-tipping policy AND the new low prices, Uber is a highly attractive service to people who have no more respect for you as a driver than they have for pond scum. They aren't going to let you tell them what to do or not do.

The only control you have is what you choose to do or not do for them. When they ask, say "no". When they ask why not, say "where would you like me to take you?" Keep it simple with these cheap, disrespectful POS clients Uber is bending over to make into their customers.

I've said before, and I'll say it again, there is a good reason city buses have plastic seats.

Man you are spot on. What do you mean by "anti-tipping policy"? Am I not supposed to accept a tip? I've always thought that I could accept it if they gave a tip, but just don't ask for it. I have noticed the fares getting lower & lower since I first started. It's frustrating, but I figured what goes down must come up.
but I figured what goes down must come up.
Yea Ubers got you face down, ass up.
If you say no to the drive thru you're asking to be one starred.

If they say drive thru I say "HAHA u getting me something ?! How nice of you "

Put those ****ers on blast.

Uber says in their training videos that if a customer insists on tipping you that you should accept it because "you earned it". But if Uber gets wind that you accepted the tip in cash, they are known to flag and even deactivate drivers for that. Uber HATES the whole concept of tipping, so if they can find a way to get rid of drivers getting tips, they will.

Just remember you can't trust a thing Uber says. Nothing. I cannot even think of a company that comes close to lying as much as Uber does.

That is honey mustard from the chicken strips.
I have gotten burned a few times and tried to talk to Uber about it but they did not care. They really need to respect and protect their drivers. What happened to me well one time I had som U of R students try to bring open alcohol in my car I told them it was illegal they gave me 1 star. I also just the other day had someone call for a ride at 7'11 when I got there he ask me to wait while he went shopping I was mad but let it go it was only 15 min. On the way back he asked me to stop and wait for him to shop at Foodlion, so I guess he was price shopping, I told him no politely what was I suppose to do I'm not a personal chauffeur. I'm not losing money so some guy can shop around, anyway he gave me 1 star. I suggested to uber to put a stand by button that can be confirmed by the rider but paid at a higher more fair rate but the "smart" mathematicians at Uber doesn't think that makes sense. I think it would keep us from getting ripping off or lose our jobs over unfair behavior and reduce BS from riders. What do you guys suggest?

The thing is, the riders need to remember we are not cabs. We will not tolerate disrespect of our vehicles. They mess it up, they pay to clean it. Period.
But they don't give a shit! They were more respectful of my cab than my car. Guess that's the difference in being viewed as a professional service provider versus a *********.

This wasn't a drive thru but I picked up a few people from Midlothian on my way out one night and they were going to Lakeside to see one of the guys fathers for a few minutes, then back to Midlothian to another bar. They asked if I could wait or if they should call another Uber. I said I'd wait. They were only at their stop for 5-10 minutes. They gave me a $20 to thank me for waiting. The total drive about an hour for a $36 fare, plus the tip. So sometimes waiting can payoff.

This is maybe one of the STUPIDEST ideas I have ever heard of. Just another example of uber/lyft not giving a crap about the drivers. Drivers are not making ANYTHING while sitting in the drive thru. BEFORE expenses, we make 11 cents a minute... and LYFT has the nerve to do something like this and not consult their "partners"? WOW, just wow. I won't EVER being doing this. I will drop you off at Taco Bell, but I am not waiting in the drive thru for .11 a minute. This is an insult.

At 4.5x, drive thrus are ok with me. We can make it win-win if the price is right. But at a crap price, sorry it's not going to happen.

I've never had a drive thru experience because I've always said "no". When they ask why, I don't tell them. I respond with nothing more than "would you like me to take you somewhere else?" Don't tell passengers why you're saying "no", not just for drive thru requests, but other requests you don't want to do. Any reason you give, they will argue back at you with. Don't give them that ammo. The hardest person to argue with is the person who says the least. So say nothing more than "no" and "would you like me to take you somewhere else" and eventually they will realize they are getting no where with you. Of course, if you WANT to do what they are asking, then by all means do it. But I have a strict "no food" policy in my car. Although I've never told that to a pax. Why? Because they would argue with me about it!!!
I ask my Uber driver to take me through my pharmacy drive thru. If they’re willing, I leave them a $20 tip on what’s usually a $16 round-trip fare. But I don’t tell them up front I’m leaving that tip. If they refuse to wait, I don’t ask again I just leave them a $5 tip (for a short 1 way trip).
