Recently I reported a lost item to Uber and they notified me the pax will attempt to contact me. I didn't get requests for the next 60 minutes. I ended up going to the airport waiting in the queue to get my next request. Until dropping off that pax I was getting requests pretty frequently. I wonder if Uber block you from getting pings temporarily so you don't leave the area.
That pax didn't bother to contact me until 2 hours later, by this time I was far away. Has anyone else noticed this, next time I think it's better to the throw the item out of the car.

I recently had someone leave a phone in the car. I found it luckily before the next rider might have taken it, and was waiting for the rider to call it all day. I never reported it to Uber, just waited for the rider to ring their own phone. Took almost all day, and I find it hard to believe they didn't notice it missing until that point.

I returned it next day despite them asking me to do it that evening. I wasn't going out of my way to return it. The rider then reported the lost item to Uber, probably thinking it would make me return it asap. I told Uber not to disclose my number to the rider, and instead have them provide a number on which I can call them.

I called them, reinforced I wouldn't be returning it until the following day when they were back in the CBD (They wanted me to return it to Ashfield!) and left it at that. Upon returning it the next day, they offered me some payment and I just told them not to worry about it as I was very close to their office in any case.

Perhaps next time it happens, I'll ignore it and leave it on the back seat until some other rider just takes it themselves.

Just when you think you have heard all the conspiracy theories, another one pops up that makes the previous one look almost sane.

By the way, has anyone else noticed that if you receive a call from your mum whilst you are online and you don't answer the call, for some reason you don't get any more requests until you call your mum back.

To avoid the hassle che k you car when you drop them off.. I always do...
Let me get this right...

After EVERY ride:
  • you get out of the driver's seat,
  • open the back door check the back seats,
  • check nothing has dropped between the seats,
  • get on your hand and knees and check under the left front seat,
  • get on your hand and knees and check under the right front seat,
  • get back into the drivers seat.
That would be fun to watch, and how many times a shift do you average this little routine ?

PS. Were you a Prefect at school, do you work for Uber Training Dept ?

No I'm not going to that extent but I do a quick check of what I can see from the drivers seat and I ask them to check the if I think they'll drop something

In one year of driving the only thing I had to return was a letter from the bank that I dropped in the mailbox as he was on the way to shops

According to Uber we have to work out a payment between the rider and ourselves.

I always charge riders are return fare from wherever I am or my home if it is next day etc. I use the Uber fare estimator thing.

The free option according to Uber is for us to drop the lost item off at the Uber office WHEN we have a chance. This could be in a weeks time.

If someone wants their stuff back courier style then they should pay for your time, car and fuel.

AND, NO, they cannot come to my place to pick it up themselves.
