Renting Your Uber Partner Account Out [2015]

21269 Views 34 Replies 20 Participants Last post by  Kurt Halfyard
Generally when I don't drive Uber I rent my Uber accont, (including my phone) since I have lots of data to a friend od mine she is an older lady that doesn't have vehicle to qualify her for Uber. She pays me $50 for half a day, and she says people don't mind since its at night and no body actually looks at her.

Was wondering if anybody does this too?

Uber does not provide any insurance, in case of accident you are really screwed and so is your passenger. The moment you report accident to Uber or your passenger does your Uber account becomes deactivated and if anyone asks, they never heard of you. So be very careful, your personal policy will not cover you and it will become void since you are committing insurance fraud to begin with.
Was wondering how many of you are actually using cars you registered with Uber? I have registered a late model Audi but it would be an insanity to use that, so instead I use my wifes 2001 Corolla since its cheap on gas and I figured people who use Uber X are cheap people that don't deserve better anyways. I know few others who don't use the cars they registered.
If you get into an accident driving for Uber, Uber may cover you. They say they will, and Actionjax says a number of claims have been settled. But if you rent your Uber account including your phone to a friend who drives a car that isn't even registered to your account and your friend gets into an accident, do you think that Uber is going to cover your friend and cover your wife's Corolla? And do you think your insurance company is going to cover your friend or you? You are taking a lot of risk for that $50.

THIS!!!! LoL. ivanB , you are crazy man.

The things that some people who do for a small amount of money. This experience is already risky enough to you personally using your own vehicle for this in fear of not being compensated should you get into a major accident with PAX in vehicle, but for you to just lend your car out to some stranger like that for $50 is just absolute NUTS!!! TomP has already lined up the reasons why one would be crazy for doing such.

This in addition to the fact that all it takes is one pax to report that driver to Uber for Uber to deactivate your account and your Uber days are over.

Uber will not cover you anyhow, its a lie they use to get people to sign up with them. In fact second you report accident to them your account becomes deactivated.
They deactivate you so you don't take trips in a car that is damaged. They reactivate you once everything is back in order (car repaired, etc.) -- I've followed many different Lyft and Uber insurance claim postings over time to see how it works out. Our insurance situation in Canada is a little hazy mainly due to the fact that non-owned auto policies have more limitations here than in the US - though this is changing. From my understand Uber in many cases is self-insuring and covering damages out of pocket until the Intact stuff kicks in, but that is just rumour.

I guess only way to make sure of this is to get into accident with passenger in a car and see what happens then.
In the past I would have been mad about a Driver allowing someone else drive on their account. But the fact is that Uber itself flagrantly violates the laws and regs on the books. Why shouldn't the Drivers themselves violate Uber's own policies?

With that said, ivanB, perhaps you should rethink this arrangement with the older lady. Your Driver Acc. will be permanently deactivated on the first complaint to Uber by a rider.
Maybe you should ask the older lady to start saving for a down payment on a car so that she can apply to Uber herself.

Ugh, don't buy a car for Uber. Uber is not a job............. she'd be better off working at Dollarama or Tim Horton's and with far less risk.

Yes once its deactivated you can get a new one very easily, its not a big deal.
Riders can, drivers it's not as easy. I think they should increase their screening personally (someone should validate the drivers in person for example....) but hopefully upcoming regulation will address that.

I wish Uber would do this. Lyft does it. Uber has offices all over the place. It would be so easy.

IvanB is nothing but a taxi shill.
His purpose here?

Don't tell me you guys can't see through it yet.

Collecting information to use against Uber and Uber partners.

Notice all his topics and their content. Then look how he sneakily trys to get people to admit to and if not to do illegal crafty stuff.

I see right through you Ivan.

Maybe Ivan is a Troll, but renting account is a good idea. I dont drive right now becouse my car isnt good on fuel, but I can rent my UberSelect account if somebody needs it to drive older smaller cars - ideal for uber works, like 2000 Toyota Corolla.
No, it's a stupid idea. Like how you get in a taxi and the picture on the license doesn't match the driver half the time.

I'd drive on another account. But taking select pings in a Toyota corrola while funny is kind of a catfish to the passenger. Lol

Just put a sign on the back: "My other car is an Uber Select."

I'm sitting here and thinking how dumb must one be to not notice or care that a SELECT vehicle has been requested and there is a Corolla arriving to pick them up instead.

I mean yeah - you should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity. But really?
