I drive mostly at night and I tend to pickup drivers who are often coming from clubs. I keep a couple bottles of Febreze in the car for in between rides but often the morning after when I get into my car to head to my main job I still smell the scent of smoke from various Blunts and cigarettes.

During the day my children ride in the car and I hate that they smell those things.

What can I do to rid my car of those smells?

Once you stop taking rides for the night, drive home with the windows down. Last thing before you leave the car parked, spray the odor remover of your choice heavily. Leave a tiny crack for air. Tiny, doesn't have to be big, just enough for air to circulate, the car heating up or cooling down will be enough to move air around. First thing when you open it again, roll the windows all the way down. Drive the first few miles with the windows down. I get gas every morning before I start, so I use the time to the gas station to air things out. It is frequently over 90 when I start for the day, so this also blows the hot air out and lets the AC work easier.

Citrus Magic orange-scented air freshener. The oil in orange rind is squeezed out and used for aerosol spray deodorizer.

I spray this in the back of my vehicle, let it sit for a minute, then roll the windows down and drive for another minute or two. The foul aromas are gone, and my car smells like an freshly peeled orange!

Which Febreze are you using? They have regular AIR freshener that doesn't help much but the also have the FABRIC that you spray right onto the seats that helps better. I've also used their CAR product that plugs onto the vent that isn't to bad. 4.9's suggestions on opening windows etc. works best for me as well.

Love Ozium! Just don't inhale it. I usually spray it before I take a break to get something to eat or drink, or at the end of my shift. I get out of the car, give a good spray all over, toss the can on the seat and quick close the door. Let it sit for at least 10 minutes. It will also kill airborne germs, as it was originally made for medical institutions.

Call me sensitive, but I have used everything on this list, and still, especially with my air conditioner on, I can smell a funkiness, that I just can t get rid of. Don't get me wrong, nearly every day of ride share, I will have a few people comment on how nice my car smells.... But I know what "zero" air conditioner vent smell should be like... And mine is just not 100%....

I'm about to have my mechanic rip out my air con condenser, or something... rip it open, and scrub it out with bleach.... or just throw it away and replace it with a new one ! I need to ask him what that would cost ???

Unless somebody can come up with something better than the stuff mentioned in this thread....

Oh, even tried a chlorinated bomb. Worked for a couple days.... Only thing I haven't tried yet is an ozone generator .... for real ozone..... not fake a$$ ozium spray.... which, no matter what they tell you, is just a cover up also.

Good luck! If you have a hard odors, we would recommend at least a 4oz Kanberra gel, which seems to last up to 3 months for some drivers, plus it is also working while you are not driving and doesn't just cover up the smell. Wish you happy good smelling car soon!
I totally don't doubt that the Kanberra smells great ! I love the smell of grass oil too, and the orange citrus smell mentioned above is also awesome....

My problem is getting rid of the funky smell in the AC system first, so that I'm not trying to mask a smell, but rather, completely eliminate it. THEN I can try some nice scents..... used lightly, because no masking would be required.

If they come in smelling like smoke of any kind, it's going to be a cool ride. It's particularly fun when I get the over entitle pax. They get a lecture and a nice breeze.

Yeah, her crotch rot can get smeared on your seats and that won't be good. Who knows what other kind of diseases or infections she may have.
The only thing that bothers me about this post, is that I have said stuff that was far less offensive, not personal at all, and got banned for 1 week for it... TWICE... ? Like really ? WTF ? Wait.... I think one of those times was for emulating foul words ? WTF was that supposed to mean ? :) lol

google using Lysol spray to clean your car's ac system
I've done that.... Plus even some much more hard core stuff, supposedly designed just for the purpose. Good for about 3 days :(

I have had great luck using essential oils like Lemongrass and Lavender on cotton balls or cotton squares placed under the seats. Nearly everyone comments on how fresh my car smells, and how pleasant the scent is. I'm not sure that it would work as well if you already have a funk going on in your A/C, but it's a cheap and easy way to make your car smell nice.
