Rates so low, I'm now driving junkies

Uber's rates have gotten so low, it is now the affordable choice for addicts who can't even afford shoes (that's right she got into my car just wearing socks) to go meet up with their dealer in the heroin Capitol of nj!

This is the kind of customer uber's rates attract, and it's only going to get worse. I know why a white girl in her 20's would want to be dropped off in a particular paterson neighborhood at 11pm on a sat, and no she certainly couldn't afford to tip!

On a side note, am I in any way liable if I know I'm helping them get their drugs? They didn't specifically say that's what they were doing, but trust me anyone from this area would know that's why they were there.

okay I’m going to say it once. DO NOT DO THIS AGAIN! Paterson PD will do raids and road blocks and every means. They look for cars and driver that does not fit the hood.

Especially if you are white at 11PM . reverse racism. LOL

The know white kids are there for drugs. I remember reading about this in the Bergen Record

Just to clarify I just dropped her off in the shady neighborhood. There was no way in hell I was about to let her disappear for 5 mins, and then get back in my car riding dirty lol

Technically, they can seize your car even if all that you do is drop her off, although rarely do they do that. While the Metropolitan Police here rarely bother the drivers of hire-vehicles that do druggie round-trips, the Federal Police Forces here will snatch the vehicles. The District of Columbia's being what it is allows and demands that the Feds become more involved here than they would elsewhere. I have known of a few cab drivers who had their cars impounded because they were doing round trip drug runs. It was always the Feds that grabbed them. Every one did get back his car, but with at best, a few scratches and a broken window; at worst, two flat tyres, broken mirrors, a missing fender and trunk lid and water all inside the car.

It seems that the Original Poster is not off the mark, though, more than one poster to this forum has been complaining about this. The bright side is that at least you do not get run out on by the druggie, as he must have some means of paying electronically. Druggies' being short on the fare or running out have been a problem for cab drivers for years. Fortunately, here, for a l ong time, we were allowed to get our money up front, so at least we did get the one way. The Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism people on the Taxicab Commission decided that we needed a rule that specifically banned that practice. I really do not care about that stupid rule. If I do not think that I will be paid, either they put some money on the front seat or they can get out. The Police or Harassmen-ER-uh-HACK Inspector can write any summons that he will, he still can not make me physically haul them. I have posted elsewhere about the drivers for one suburban company and this druggie who burned a few of them, so I will not repeat it, here.

Paterson is now the skag capital of Jersey? When did it displace Camden and Newark?

they cant really do anything as you are a for hire driver. i have dropped off hoes, a guy last night on the phone saying"yeah i got that stuff" . you drive them and drop them off and move on. you can not search every pax nor would you be allowed to. no court in any land would convict you. no da would take on a case like that.

how would you know if that exec wearing a 1000 suit you are dropping off to a fancy hotel, doesnt have coke in his pocket?

In Chicago the dealers take the 24/7 train right to the white "kids" neighborhood. There are multiple reports per week of "robberies" and "beatings" or stolen car wheels (usually because they owe their dealers $$$). They still can't figure out the crime problems there. Well, I lived there and saw it with my own 2 eyes.

I did have one very obvious pick-up where we had to make a stop "to pick something up" then onto the nightclub. Silly me, I was expecting her to walk out with a box or something but the only thing she had in her hand was that tiny little purse she walked in with. A very prominent name displayed on the waybill arranged this ride for her.
They just lowered the base fare from $6 to $4 in my town. No notification. Nothing. Just $2.40 instead of $4. What a joke.

Once they email your 1099 and you file your taxes, you'll qualify for food stamps and Medicaid. This is what everyone rushed to the polls for in 2008.

Probably not involved in the drugs, but if she got busted with a connection to your car the cops could give you 4 tickets as an unlicensed livery car and possible impound you car , as well. I read a post on here from a Uber driver that picked up a guy that was arrested for DWI. The driver was pinged to the police station after the guy made bail and needed a drive home. When the Uber driver arrived the cops checked him out make sure he wasn't a drunk buddy, the driver volunteered that he was an Uber driver. They thanked him for his assistance in the matter with four tickets.
i have a bad feeling rates are going to get lower. as soon as it falls below $1 in my area , i will be done.

I remember reading about the child of a prominent Chicago politician who got slapped around, had his telephone and hubcaps stolen. The day after it broke I picked up several customers from Chicago. All of them told me the same thing: Everybody knows that guy stays in debt to the drug boys, so every once in a while, a few of them pay him a visit to slap him around and swipe something from him.

......time was when you owed a Chicago hood some money, you paid at least the vig on it with regularity----either that or you would at best, lose the ability to walk, at worst, lose the ability to pay anything at all, ever......

Its definitely coming man. They gutted DFW a few weeks ago. 85 cents/mile + 10 cents/minute = 30% real haircut on a paycheck. Other areas are getting hit as well, nothing as bad as Atlanta so far but I am hearing bad things.
