I live 14 miles/17 minutes (according to google maps) from our small regional airport. I’m trying to determine if I am close enough to the airport to get a ride request from someone at the airport (all other things considered equally; in this example let’s say I’m the only Uber driver online within 30 miles).

I’ve gone to @uber_support on twitter and they don’t understand my question.

Does anybody know? Surely there is a time/distance cut off?
Thanks!

You'll get a request if they figure you are 1 of the most efficient drivers to make the pickup. I wouldn't count on too many requests coming though. I live 20 miles from downtown chicago and drive to the city for work. You should try to position yourself where the work is. Good luck!

Check the arrival times on their webpage. You'll know within a day or two. Why not just go there 10 minutes before arrival and sit?

I’m intimately familiar with the arrival/departure times at the airport (because there’s only 3-5 flights a day). I’d rather sit at home and get a ping. But I get what you are saying. What I’m looking at is the potential to get pinged due to flights getting canx’d (which, again, goes with your point, I could just go sit up there and wait).

Ok. If the algorithm detects that there are other drivers, maybe further away than you, but are either moving toward the ping, or away, but can be turned and still beat you there, they will be the ones getting the ping.

I’ve tested this at out local regional airport. I’ve pulled in and have seen as many as 5 other cars in the cell phone lot before me.

I park in an area of that lot that gets me to the terminal the quickest and am nearly always the first one out to get a rider.

You ever been in east Texas?
You'd be surprised.
Besides, I've seen a couple flights canx'd out of the blue for no reason.

Thank you very much! This is what I was trying to figure out.

I get pings from Uber for up to 16 miles away so I don't see any reason why you would not get them. Know your markets long distance pick-up threshold for time and work that to your advantage to make the trip worth it.

With Lyft I have seen pick-up requests as much as 45 minutes away, so you should get those as well. I screen the Lyft requests to make sure it is within my profit margin distance wise before I do the long drive unpaid.

I'm hoping the OP is running both apps. If not he's losing a lot of potential income.

And Yes, you have to limit Lyft pickups to a certain distance as they don't pay for long pickups. I limit it to 8 minute max.
