All the posts on this forum regarding Covid-19 & who's fault it is or who hasn't done what, does not matter. We are in a pandemic our lives matter above all else, so deal with the reality of it. Whatever you do please stay safe.
Agreed - play the blame game after we beat this, get everyone healthy and the country back on it's feet.

Yes it matters - especially when the same mistakes continue to be made over and over again. For instance, why do we still have flights spreading the virus throughout the country? Why stop flights from China but not from NYC? Do you realize that had we locked things down mid-February when it was clear how bad this would be, we could likely be getting back to normal already with far less casualties?

I agree with you that lives are what matter and do not want to see people die. And this is not about taking political sides. Every one of our national leaders has let us down. From the ridiculously partisan impeachment, to the testing fiasco, to the President's 15 cases and going to zero and to the fact that we are in the fight of our lives and Congress is on vacation for another two weeks, our leaders have failed us - and continue to do so.

Sure but we (uber drivers) can't even put together a simple one day strike to attempt to better our work environment do you really think we can change the country's political leaders visions?

But, the current numbers are showing this to be a 97% recovery rate nationwide. This what the media is NOT telling everyone. It is all in the numbers that are available online, but the constant barrage of negative news on the TV and Radio stations show where the media wants to be. The old song goes "get the widow on the set" because it makes for sensationalistic news reporting. If people would just do a little bit of homework and stop buying into everything the jaundiced media spoon feeds us, things would get better fast. Now, please don't say I am downplaying the casualties in this pandemic, as their lives were valuable also, but we need to pay better attention to what the talking heads are NOT saying.

Agreed, it would be nice if they would put more emphasis on that. The problem, though, might be that folks will think "yeah, I might get it but I'll get better" and forget about the fact that they can get the more vulnerable sick. I just read about the gent at Penn Presby in Philly that spent 17 days on a vent and is back home. Need more feel good stories like that.

Hey Buddy, I hope all is well. Not to bring you down but I am not sure where you are coming up with a 97% recovery rate nationwide. As of right now, there have been 9,643 deaths and 17,530 recoveries for a total of 27,173 resolved cases (out of 337,620 confirmed). So yes, 9,643/337,620= 2.85%. But that does not mean 97.15% recovered. There are still 310,447 unresolved cases and, unfortunately, many more will die bringing up the rate.

Of resolved cases, the current death rate is a staggering 35% (9643/27173). Granted that number will go down dramatically but it will likely not end at just 3%. Just look at Spain and Italy who are at 9.6% and 12% respectively. France is not far behind. And both Spain and Italy have less than 40% of their cases resolved. They literally could be looking at 12-18% case fatality rate. It is horrific.

There is still a lot that is unknown and if most of the 80% that have mild symptoms are not tested, that would bring down those rates but without testing we will never know the real number. Now we have reached a point where US hospitals are being overrun, are short supplies and there are many patients who have been on ventilators for quite some time. All factors that are not good for the mortality rate.

South Korea is the example experts point to as handling this well and they are around 2.8%. With nearly 70% of cases resolved, their rate should stay close to that number. But they did a lot right:

South Korea tested as many people as they could, both those that were sick as well as random samples and they started testing early on. This allowed them to isolate and target problem areas. We failed in that regard.

South Korea has 12.27 hospital beds per 1000 population (2nd only to Japan).

To put that in comparison:

Italy has 3.8 hospital beds per 1000 population.

Spain has 2.97 hospital beds per 1000 population.

The United States has only 2.77 hospital beds per 1000 population.

I just don't see how we fair better than Italy and Spain.

I love this country and bought into the whole America has the best health system in the world, that the economy was strong, etc. But now reality is setting in. People are literally in food lines after one missed paycheck. The house of cards has collapsed. But it is not the end of the world. We can and will rebuild and will hopefully learn from our mistakes.

And if you really want to get scared, in NJ, we currently have 917 deaths and only 92 classified recovered. Crazy.

Actually of those tested positive, FULL recovery rate is about 45% (this includes self treated and no system positives). Recovery with lasting life long problems so far is about 17%. Death is about 3% so far and the remaining 35% are still being treated for the coronavirus-19. Nobody really knows what category they will be in, until it's all over.

Only hindsight will bare the truth of all this. History is a great teacher but now we mostly have confusion and mixed signals from stakeholders with their own agendas. This is TODAY'S history.

So we are not REALLY in a position to KNOW much. Just in a position to make best guesses. Frustrating to stake our futures on guesswork.

It's the Trump hating trolls who have nothing better to do. They don't know how to make money or process facts. It's hilarious. Their scientific intellect is at the level of Andrew Dice Clay, but unlike Clay they're not actually a brilliant comedian playing stupid...they really are lol

There are reports surfacing that the hospitals have been instructed to attribute nearly every death to COVID-19. The directive also did not differentiate between :with coronavirus" and from "coronavirus" as the listed cause of the death, they are all treated the same.

Someone is at fault, and we all know who is to be blamed >> *Trump's Administration* deserves NO break, why a break ??
They never gave a break before. They never stop obstructing other parties before.
I am Sorry, people die more than ever before, the economy when to hell by their own wrong decision.
They are NOT entitled to a break.

From what I hear from front line workers is that Hospitals are lessing the blow by reporting deaths as Pulmonary and Pneumonia when someone dies before a covid-19 test has been done, even when presented with all positive signs of having covid-19. Maybe when more testing is actually done, we will see the real numbers. Real scary thought.

Not sure on the credibility of the sources, but this is just one example of the crisis at hand.

That is called mis-direction, I will believe what the health care professionals are telling me. There is too much background noise muddying the waters, The main reason I will believe the people, not the media...

Heard about 5 people I know today that are positive, one in Nj, one in Philly, two in Queens and one in Staten Island. Three are young and handling well. The two older people are OK. Please be careful.

At my latest count, I have 9 relatives who have tested positive, no one is on a respirator yet, all are between 26 and 39 years in age. 1 is in the hospital. they are spread out over 4 States, NJ, NY PA and CO and have not had close contact since Christmas. My immediate family has not showed any signs of infection.

You realize that's an incredibly stupid thing to say. Oh wait I forgot who I was talking to.

You'd have to be colossaly ignorant of what the internet is to believe this could happen in the US

But there seems to be quite a few here lol

Thumbs up was for the immediate family being OK - luckily is the same for me. It was hard to hear that so many I know have it. One young lady is in my Friends and Family Fantasy Football league and a young man is my close friend's son. The young lady, 29, has had it for two weeks with almost no symptoms other than loss of taste and smell, which appears to be returning. The others are people we see around the holidays.
