Many of the drivers are dangerous and you need to take action before someone and a child are killed. I have been cut off at close call riding my bicycle this week by 4 Via cars, massive black cars and 3 Ubers. I've also been a passenger in an Uber that cut off a cyclist who had to slam their hand down on the vehicle. I ride with my 4-year-old in a child seat (thank God defensively) and it is unbelievable how poorly they drive. In some instances, they actually saw me on the bike, with my child and kept turning. I've also seen cyclists cut-off by the the drivers. I haven't been cut off by a Taxi in over 2 years, maybe longer since I can't even recall. I commute by bike. The drivers do not seem to be trained properly on road safety and driving skills. Please educate and promote taking care of cyclists. Please put stickers inside and outside the car doors alerting drivers and passengers to look out for the cyclists and keep the streets safe. Promote safety and sharing the roads. It will be tragic for everyone for one of these drivers to have such an accident. Thank you for reading.

Where do you live? I'm pretty careful when it comes to cyclist but it goes both ways. I live in san Francisco and so many cyclist ignore the law as they please. I try to be careful but if you're not going to follow the laws yourself I can't help you.

You couldn't pay me enough money to risk riding a bicycle on a major road. I just don't think it's very smart. There are way too many distractions now a days especially as an Uber driver as most of them are staring at their phones trying to figure out where to turn. And no there is absolutely no training to become an Uber driver Mother of 4-year-old. You sign up to drive and if approved you hit the road. No training required. Find a good trail, take an Uber to work. Stop risking your life getting to work everyday. I used to work in news and usually covered a bicyclist death once every couple days. There is no education though to combat this. It's laws of physics, a 100lb object has no business being on the same path as a 5,000lb object. I try to look out for bicyclists but I've had some close calls and mostly it's because they aren't watching me either. They have their earbuds in paying no attention to the 5,000lb gorilla next to them

I'm a cyclist, but I agree with this. I pay close attention to other cyclists, but I swear many of them riding on main thoroughfares are just plain stupid -- an example of natural selection at work, unfortunately.

If OP's had 7 close calls just this week, I think I see a pretty clear pattern there -- and it's NOT driver incompetence. Once, sure. Twice, maybe on a bad week. But 7 times? No -- that's on you, Mom. If you can't ride better than that, at least leave your innocent child at home.

This reminds me of the motorcyclists riding in between lanes of traffic on busy roads with a "Look twice for motorcyclists" sticker on their bike. As a famous guy once said, "People don't take responsibility for their own ****!"

Uber or not, it's the driver not the service. Drivers in general need to be more careful when it comes to cyclist and motorcycles.

Don't lane split, run red lights, sneak up on the right side blind spot, move out from NYC.

I use to cycle to work and am very pro-bike....definitely feel your post, but with all the distracted driving from cell phones these days I would be VERY selective what roads I biked on. Its unfortunate, but the bottom line is cycling on MOST roads is too risky.

I always try to clip them with my mirror. I usually get them with my truck but with my cars it's a little harder mirrors aren't as far out as the truck but it's a fun game. You don't wanna move over learn a lesson

Whats also hard for vehicles is sometimes during night. It is sometimes very difficult to see a bicycle with no lights or indicators zoom by.

Share the road with bikes.
But bikes should follow the rules of the road too. My biggest beef is lights. Bike have to be seen! Why do bikers wear black, have no lights, no reflectors and complain about drivers?
Bikers need to take responsibility for their own safety too. Put lights on your bikes, help us see you.

NEVER run a red light. They are not yield signs and should never be treated as such. Why cyclists have a tendency to do this is beyond me.

Oh, and if there's cars at a stop sign intersection, YIELD. Don't zoom in and expect the cars to clear out of your way like crossing the red sea.

Yes as you can see from all my likes, I hate Cyclists! and I have a bicycle which I stopped riding in heavily traveled streets because of all the ahole cyclists out there, which make car drivers already have an aggressive attitude toward me because they are used to cyclists riding like bats out of hell. My buddy, was in his car stuck in bumper to bumper traffic on Dexter Ave N. He made a left turn, ON the left turn green arrow light, onto Mercer Way, which was also bumper to bumper. He couldn't quite clear his car from the cross walk, leaving his rear bumper sitting in the crosswalk about 2 feet of a 12 foot wide crosswalk.

A cyclist (who for some reason rode into the crosswalk ignoring the green left turn arrow for the cars ) got pissed about having to swerve around my friend's stopped car with protruding rear bumper, took out his U-Lock, and slammed it into the trunk lid of my buddy's 2015 Chevy Malibu. The end of the lock almost punched a hole in the trunk lid. Of course the courageous cyclist took off and disappeared into the rows of traffic as my friend jumped out of his car to go after him. Everyone saw it, but because cyclists don't have to carry any identifiers displayed on their bikes such as license plates, he couldn't be identified because he looked like any other Seattle Hippie cyclist.

I think if you are an adult and ride in traffic, meaning you are not just a kid riding your bike in your neighborhood, the law should require you have to have license plates issued by the state and mounted to your bike front and back. Just like a car, since they want to pretend they are cars just like us, yet they seem to take it only part way. They apparently don't have to stop for red lights, stop signs, and they get to zip on and off the side walk and in between the rows of traffic.

If Bike riders followed the rules of the road, they probably would have less problems. Then you have the city government in SF deprioritizing bike offenses and not writing them any more. That was another great idea. Now the state is doing it.

Oh well, if you are going to screw with cars while riding a bike.......
