So Its been around two weeks since I started Ubering. I must say at first I was super exited but now I lost all that excitement plus the motivation because of short rides I am sick of those $3.50 $4.20 sometimes $2.40 what is that? I feel like I wanna kick every jerk of my car who cant get their ass up for 0.5 miles I cannot believe it. Cheap people everywhere Oh and I almost forgot these days most of the pax have their Waze ready before I start the trip and guess where they are going? F--- 0.4 miles away. This is a real joke. are you serious you all set your waze up for a mile away ride?

On the other hand, I am not giving up I know there is a lot to learn and discover I admit that I still am a newbie but I am going to get this going one way or the other.

I like driving at nights therefore Id like to work at nights like from 12am to 8 or 9 am but I do not know where to go and get decent rides I mean long rides. I live in West Hollywood but most of the trips in a day time here are short trips like $3 - $5 can SOMEONE PLEASE tell me where should I go at nights to get long rides and surges

Thank you very much in advance much appreciated.

Long rides. Ain't that the story. Sorry, to tell you but those are hard to get. You got to be at the right place, at the right time, for when the rider makes the call. So work smart and you call the riders before going to pick them up. Don't move an inch if it's not the ride you want.

Usual places are hotels. Not the Motel 6 kind, but the more upscale. Some will take you to the Santa Monica, Long Beach or the airport. In the mean time, nothing more you can do about those short trips, but to call each and everyone, before going to pick them up. Just call them up, and ask where they are going. If it's long enough for you, start driving. If not what you want, then cancel the trip (no charge to rider).

I knew that would be the case but still I am not giving up. thank you for being straight I appreciate it! my rating is 4.95 which I think is okay and Ive never accepted a ping then canceled after(not sure if this is right) I either turn off the app or just let it time out once a day if the pax rating is too low and etc. And as far as I know Uber does not like accepting a ping then cancel it right away right?
do we get in trouble with that? and calling late night would not be that appropriate I guess?

^^^ Yeah, pitiful.

Seeing that makes me think I have it better out here. Even if I have to wait longer between pings.

If you're skilled at who you pick up (rating) and where to be (nice hotels, dinner places etc) it's all a matter of luck honestly. I would say 2/3 is luck and 1/3 is skill.

It used to be much much better last year and the year before. Now it's just public transportation. God speed.

Learn how to A.C.R.O. aka Skipping. Of course you can call as they are hopefully not passed out after they requested a ride. A lot of info here you need to learn before driving another mile. Letting request time out is bad for you so learn how to ACRO within 15 seconds.

Hey Noxite! I've recently just started to drive for Uber and Lyft as well. In my experience so far, you have to drive very intelligently. This means Utilizing only surge prices at 1.5x or higher, or accepting Lyft requests instead. Currently, I've seen the border of Loz feliz pretty good lately, and Downtown. Westside is great: due to the money factor and people willing to spend there, but driver saturation is high. Certainly with Uber, your car is the biggest expense; Don't drive frivolous Miles, Don't accept far away requests, Don't spend on expensive gas, Calculate 5 minutes (Once the app says you've arrive and timer is at 0) and cancel for no shows, unless you know they're going far and need slightly more time. Unfortunately you can't just "Drive" how Uber markets it to be and expect a huge return, but you can work harder, smarter, and hope Uber will cut us a break one day. I hope I had anything useful to share! DON'T GET DISCOURAGED
