Why on earth do they allow tip modification?

If it’s to allow room in case a shopper gets it wrong, then it should only remove a certain percent from the tip, and there needs to be proof.
Maybe there can be a feature where the shoppers take a final picture of All purchased items before they’re sent off to the drivers. That way if the ordering person lies and claims something was missed, the picture proves it wrong and the frauding idiot can be removed from app and/or sent to jail

Uber also allows tip modifications, but only for a short period of time (1 hour?).

But the difference is that promised Instacart tips are advertised with the request as an incentive for the driver to accept the "batch." Uber doesn't do that. Instacart's policy of allowing this bait and switch tactic is totally unethical -- and honestly makes me wonder if Instacart themselves aren't canceling a lot of these tips and keeping the driver's money.

I'm going to tip our Instacart at least the promised tip in cash tomorrow, and depending on how things go, I may solicit them to be a private shopper for a while.

the sad part is so many of these cheap bastards that reduce the tips have money but they believe they are better than the driver and simply treat us as garbage because of their superiority complex...they do it because they have the power to abuse us.....

the problem with InstaCart is people order 1 specific item, Dove soap for example, but the store only has Dial soap available. Rather than getting what is available the shopper doesn't get them any soap at all. They need to let the buyer have replacement options for every item.
Like if I want soap I put 1. Dove, if not available 2. Dial, if not available 3. Irish Spring. and so on

They do have that option. Not sure they have it on every item, but they do have it. They also have an option for no substitute.

Bro you can offer dial as a replacement item. Customer can decide yes or no, and you can even send a text and a photo to give them options.

ok let's say you do that in the middle of shopping, but I'm a Dr. who is in the middle of surgery while you're texting me "do you want dial or irish spring instead". of course you don't always get a response immediately. I ordered InstaCart and went to a bar one night so I would come home and have food waiting for me. I missed like 8 texts from the driver asking me stuff like that when I could have put the replacement items in when I originally ordered

Instacart tells the shopper to make a best choice replacement most of the time.

I get that, but when I go to publix right now and the bread aisle is empty except for $4.99 15 grain wheat bread but I ordered the $1.85 publix white bread what does the shopper do? Now imagine I ordered 20 things and each item needs to be replaced by something that is $3 more than what I originally ordered

Then the shopper of course, doesn't get the tip. But I wouldn't say the situation is bad enough that 20 items cost 3 dollars more.
