I give out my number to all pax that ask for it. I rarely get a call back and when I do, I rarely answer, simply because I rarely answer my phone for anyone.

I don't mind giving my number out to pax. I get a gazillion junk calls every day so I always set my phone on do not disturb anyways and pretty much the only way to get ahold of me is by leaving a message.

I gave out my number a couple of times to never hear from the people. They must be dialing the wrong number, or something. I don't think I will be doing that again.

I think most people think you are cool because they have beer goggles on. When they sober up they see some random number in their phone book and wonder how it got there.

But sure, I can relate to the OP with people calling me asking for rides. I just tend to ignore those messages or respond that I'm too busy.

I figure in the short term, giving your number away helps Mr. BeerGoggles feel good and give you that 5 star rating and a tip you wanted.

Precovid I had a few folks I did private rides for. I live near an affluent neighborhood, had a semi luxury vehicle (Toyota Avalon) and these folks were willing to pay for the experience of private limo service. Most frequently it would be drop off and pick up at a concert. Pick them up at the appropriate time, drop off and then get there 10 minutes before the concert ended so I was waiting practically by the front door and we could zoom out before traffic took hold. Those folks were willing to pay, for a 20 minute ride each way, it would block off 2 hours of my day and I would get something like $100-120. It's actually a very reasonable price for 2 couples for VIP service but 2/3 of the folks who asked were too cheap to pony up. For the rest, I always say you are welcome to text me, give them my number and never hear from them again or just send them a sorry I'm on the other side of town text. Never get the romantically inclined, I'm too old and ugly for that nonsense.

Change your phone number and stop giving it out.

Escorts and Strippers.
I tell them I'm not insured properly to take passengers off app.
besides, I do this part time, so it's highly unlikely that I can be at the beckoning of the local sex trade community.

So...

Here's the deal folks.

In the days of taxis (and it's still done) people had drivers they like and call for rides. They want their favorite driver. With taxis this still pays off for the drivers to do it this way.

The customer gets a driver they like when they need them,

the driver gets business that gets pulled directly to them.

THE PROBLEM...

99.999% of you uber drivers don't carry the proper insurance to do this. In the state of Florida doing this is an arrest-able offense.

If you get into an accident... your looking at a lawsuit, and your insurance company is going to leave you hanging, because you're not paying for commercial insurance.

So if you do this, you're looking at getting sued, paying for a lawyer to defend you, paying out of pocket to fix your car, paying out of pocket to send Granny McPhee to physical therapy and pay for her prescription painkillers to get addicted to...

The insurance problems is why your best off never giving out your number.

Another thing?

No matter what you put on your card you will get called ALL hours of the day 7 days a week. When I was exclusively working 8:30 pm to 8:30 am... my cards said

9:30 PM to 7:30 AM Thursday-Sunday NIGHTS.

That's what it said,

It's also like... late night early morning on the weekends so it's not it's not like it's super complicated

I would get called Tuesday at 2:30 PM.

I would get called Monday at 10:00 am.

I would called any conceivable imaginable time of the day 7 days a week, regardless of what my card said.

"I know your card says you don't work Tuesday afternoon... but can you come pick me up anyway?"

If you had commercial insurance and the right permits, this is absolutely an amazing way to get business, but this doesn't describe very many of you.

THESE DAYS.... I don't carry cards to give out anymore, the last time I gave a customer a number to call me for a ride was on the 4th of July, and I gave 1 party my number, so they could call for a ride to the airport the next morning. The difference is.. I was in the taxi, I knew that i was STILL going to be in the taxi when they wanted picked up. The same rules didn't apply to me. Probably the first time I've done that since December. Everyone else gets "i don't' give out my number anymore" when they ask for it.

So this is just a relic from a previous age where things didn't' work the way they do now. This very practice doesn't apply to you. Politely turn them down, and just be glad you didn't.

For an uber and lyft driver, nothing good can come of giving out your number, absolutely nothing.

Get yourself a free Google Voice number. Give out that number which forwards all calls to your actual phone number.

Can you give you're friends a ride for money? I guess you could become friends real quick.
Everyone is a friend until there's a accident AND if you accept anything more than just your actual expenses like gas you are probably subject to whatever the law is for commercial rides in your area.

My problem with one passenger was she needed to be to work by 8 in the morning every Saturday but I'm out every Friday night til 4 in the morning working then have to get up at 7 to get her there at 8 and before I know it I'm back home in bed sleeping the rest of my Saturday away instead of being out get surges and my quest bonus...losing $100s for her $15 was illogical .... but she looks at me as a bad person for not continuing to do that... SHe claimed we were such good friends and she only feel safe riding with me

I wouldn't do that for a wife or girlfriend on a regular basis, why would I do that for a stranger? Why would you care what she thinks of you?

I don't really care... But I feel we did have some kind of friendship... and I also hate that she put me in a place where I have to keep explaining this to her over and over... she still texts me all the time asking me can I pick her up and take her to work
