Last night... this makes me very uncomfortable and outraged.

What is protocol for this?

What was racist about what they were saying?

I've had self-proclaimed racist libs bemoaning trump. Drop them off and get over it. It'll die down in a couple days.

Professional cab drivers support the controversial stands of their passengers, they are in it for the tips.

I remember picking up a trio of San Diego fans at 3 Rivers after the AFC Championship game at 3 Rivers. SD won of course, and the fans had a lot of controversial attitudes about their superiority. They asked me to drive by groups of dejected Pittsburgh fans, they rolled down the windows and hollered at them. No problem for a pro

Its all part of the professional livery business.

I tend to ignore the racist attitudes. Homophobia is a different story. I had a late night trip where they were dropping f word for gay men and the d word for lesbians. After 5 minutes, I just finally stated "Gentlemen, I take it you have been drinking tonight". They all stated they were. I continue to engage them by completely changing the subject. At that point I was able de-escalate them. My natural reaction was to tell them to get out of my car, but that would not have helped anyone and may have caused the situation to escalate more.

Are you saying that they were Supporting trump and that made them them racist? Or were they actually making racist comments? You might want to clarify your thread statement. And if they were actually making racists comments, then exercise your right to refuse service. But again, your post is extremely vague and open to extreme interpretation.

This is something I tend to agree with. I'm not a thought cop. You have the right to believe what you want, even if you're horribly wrong. I'm not going to hold it against you, as I'm just here to give you a ride.

That's your right, and I support every driver's right to draw a line on pax behavior. That being said, I've given a pass to people making backhanded racist/desparaging comments about white people and Christians in my car. I happen to be both, but I also believe very strongly in people's freewill to make dumb choices and hold ignorant beliefs. That's their business.

Once it gets personal, and they begin to direct it at me clearly, I will toss a person out.

The only time I speak up is when people use the n word. Usually it's when I'm working the hood, and the pax wants the aux cord. That music is so impolite.

I did not feel it was directed towards me, but I could feel my Irish anger in me to start to well up and after I started to make small talk with them to veer them off course, if they would have continued, I would very politely ask them to exit the vehicle, but it got more mellow with them. Sometimes a knee jerk reaction is not required.

I usually don't say anything unless they include me or ask my opinion. I spend hours with customers at my full time job and they say all sorts of stuff that I just let slide because it's not worth it. If it is directed at me, which has happened, I offer to stop the ride and let them out of my car. I usually say something like, "Are you speaking to me like that?" Usually, at least one of them has the sense to tell the bigmouth to knock it off.

I'm pretty sure this thread was nothing more than bait.

Gotta admit, it reeled me in.

You drive them for free.

Well, the bait wasn't good. I think the most of us have had to deal with some level of unacceptable behavior from the passengers entering our vehicles. How we handle that behavior, personally, will determine plenty.
You just throw up the ole Sieg Heil, whip out your ramparts for Hambre... and drive with your knees while crapping all over the seat... It was written in the Uber manual. Keep up your best practices.

Yeah, it's a legit topic, and I've seen good responses, but the alleged incident described in the OP probably never happened.
I've had racist pax before. It's not pleasant, but they're only going to be in your car for maybe 10 min. I had a racist on one trip spouting all this nonsense, pointing at black people on the street and saying things that I wouldn't want to repeat, so I switched up the music to a bunch of blues and reggae and drove kinda slow to make sure he had to listen to the black music while we went. I told him I had to listen to that kind of music to focus while driving and he was getting really antsy in the back seat.... squirming around and blushing like I had put him in time-out in grade school. That gave me a lot of satisfaction. He arrived at his destination safely, got a low rating... but was delivered to his home without issue. I even told him to have a nice night as Buffalo Soldier played on the car stereo. :p
