So, I have another Uber driver friend, who may or may not be in possession of an item that a passenger left behind. This passenger was not the one who paid for nor ordered the ride. They were just part of the group.

My friend, who I shall to refer to as Y, has it but won't turn it in. I know he's been contacted about it but I'm thinking he is keeping it off and to himself hoping to keep this fruity item.

Has anyone been in a pickle like this before? I know, I know. Snitches get stitches.

But I don't want to have a guilty conscience.

Thx.

Toss it or turn it in.

It's not worth the risk of keeping it.

Especially if it's something that can literally be traced to your location if you turn it on!

PS. when returning an item, I make them come to me.

The exception would be if I'm going to be in their area for an extended period of time - ie. a lunch break.

I no longer jackass around trying to find them/wait for them at their hotel.

I have a Google voice number specifically for this kind of thing.

Lastly, the amount of effort I put forth is directly proportional to the tip they've already given me.

You and Gerg are the kind of drivers that I would tip 25% for and rate 5*. Not my friend Yunier. Oops.

As you stated above, it's not worth it. But apparently it is to my friend. Doesn't everyone know NV statute regarding fruity devices?

If the price of the item or items was at least $650 but under $3,500, you can be charged with grand larceny as a category C felony under NRS 205.220 and NRS 205.222

That is for an item you stole from someone. Not for an item somebody lost while riding in your back seat. As a cab driver I am responsible for lost items. I am not required to stop working and return it to them. If they make an effort to tip me 99% of the time I will make my way back to them. If they don't it gets turned in at the yard after my shift no exceptions. If I drove ride share my go to lost and found would be 30 feet into the lake in front of the Mirage Volcano.

Alright. My guilty conscience must come clean.....

The driver, Yunier, has an item that is not his. A $1000+ dollar Apple iPhone to be exact. He drives a Mercedes-Benz R-Class.

Last known ping of said device is 5060 W Hacienda Ave, Las Vegas

He's a sorry individual when efforts have been made to recover said lost item. Even offering a small reward.

So, if anyone knows him, well, watch what you leave around him. B/c it might get "lost".

Why would you post this? Do you think somebody here is going to contact him about this for you?

Sounds like OP stole an iphone, came on here hoping people would say "keep it, it's no big deal," and now that he didn't get that response, he panicked and is now attempting to frame someone he knows (and prob dislikes)

My point exactly. Especially knowing that a certain fruity product cannot be reactivated once it's marked stolen or lost.
To change the Apple ID, don't you just have to replace the motherboard? If you know what you're doing, it takes 15 minutes and about $100. This bypasses the activation lock... or so I've been told.

And it's silly to post a guys phone number...he obviously has a new phone number this morning <cough>

I got my first $100 for returning a phone the other day.
Even after all those years driving a taxi.
Plenty of $20s, $40s, sometimes $60,.....and stiffs of course, but never $100 that I remember.

I didn't charge the $15 return fee on top of it, like you did on your returns.
If the rider tipped out $20 and especially $40, I don't think it's cool to hit them for another $15 just because you can.

I had a passenger the other day who's wife lost a jacket on our ride. Nothing fancy it probably cost about $15. It was a Saturday night. They were staying off strip 5 miles from where I live. We made arrangements to meet the next morning. They were very nice and tipped me $5 when I gave them a ride. When I saw them to return the jacket the next morning they were very thankful and gave me $20. It was surprising considering the tip was more than the jacket probably costs. I guess some things have sentimental value to some people. I told support that I returned the item and not to charge them.

Most people though are CHEAP when returning a phone. Most phones lost would cost $700-$1,000 to replace. I just feel like $20 is not enough so I have no problem asking for the $15 return item fee too. If I honestly lost my phone, I would have no problem giving someone $50 considering how much it would cost to replace. So I have no problem asking for the return item fee and always have since every time I have returned a phone I have gotten either $0 or just $20
