Just curious how many part-time drivers are out there..

What are the most common weekly rental rates/hours offered? Is it shift work?

Has anyone else noticed some of the major insurance providers (american transit) requiring 3 years dmv now and 1 year TLC? I could have sworn last year they didn't have a TLC requirement.

I got my insuranse5 months ago with a license from another country and didn't even have 3 months with tlc.

I work part time, usually i only drive on the weekends and sometimes during the week. When you say rates, do you mean how much you can make? Or are you talking about rates as you renting? Because if you are thinking part time i would not suggest renting. I know with the rentals is no part time rate is $375 and up. Now when it comes to earning sometimes is good others not so. I chill because is my car otherwise i be driving 60 hrs a week just to make some profit.

There is a part-time rental option and I'm using it. Two actually. If you want to drive yellow, there's an app called Lacus. You get the car FOR FREE and pay 35% of what you take in. Start and stop when you want.

The second is Dryve. Also start and stop when you want.

The rates for Dryve are $55 for any 11 hours or $85 for 24 hours. Pick-up and drop off the cars in different zones throughout Queens and Brooklyn.

I started using these apps as I'm just driving a few shifts to get me through to the end of the year. Working out great for me.

Well is almost as if i was paying reg insurance, my insurance before non commercial was $260 so is almost the same and TLC stickers is every 2 years so i think is not that bad the registration is every year and and the inspection every 4 months. You need to look at what is best for you if you already have a car why rent?

Why not? If you take 18 credits, and one class a day, you should be able to work to make $700 a week or so. That is generally enough to live on and pay your expenses until summer hits, where you'd want to work more to save up. I'm going to be doing it this way. I also live just 15 mins away from school, though.

Pretty much this. It helps if you have a paid off car as well. I am almost at this point where I just pay tlc insurance each month, registration each year and tlc sticker every 2 years.

No, it's because 1. gas costs on part-time work is about $35-45 a week. Rent is $950 (incl. utilities) + $50 for internet. Insurance is $350, cellphone is $85 (two lines), car payment is $350, and all that's left is food. That means I got about $600 or $700 a month in extra $ that can either go toward credit cards that I drained on TLC payments or set aside for maintenance and stuff (which isn't that much, anyway). So, it's enough to get by on. I'm also saving up $1-2k on the side to cover emergency costs. I can get by on it, I'm sure of it.

I think my brokerage is pretty terrible and they dont take the time to find things out. I am pretty sure that "requirement" is just from one insurance carrier. According to my insurance brokerage, I can't get around this unless I lose the deposit on my current carrier and switch to another carrier with a higher premium.

I am definitely going shopping for another brokerage in February.

This new concept has been working out so great for me because now I just go out and drive from Thursday night to Monday 4:00Am and I make between $400-$550 clean those three days depending how hard i hustle, before when I had the car 24hrs/7days I Had to drive 7 days to be able to make my profit and pay the $425 car payment for the week meaning more work and more exposure to Tlc and NYPD snakes and risk of tickets or accidents.
