My point is that there’s no need to berate someone who asks about government assistance.

You don’t know them personally, you don’t know their financial situation and you don’t know what’s going on in their personal life. He could have 9 children for all you know and requires the payment to feed them while he’s not working.
There is no point because you were wrong.

Is the Uber financial assistance for drivers with COVID-19 still available?

If it were still available, it would be likely to make drivers ineligible for the Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment given the following eligibility requirement for that payment:

you have no sick leave entitlements, including pandemic sick leave, personal leave or leave to care for another person.’

When you follow through all the relevant links in the driver app, you encounter the following statement:

‘As of 30 September 2021, we are no longer taking applications for the COVID financial assistance policy.’

Are they only paying 1 week, Even if you are symptomatic for 2 weeks and can’t work?
No, they may pay one week at a time for later weeks but you need to reapply each week to confirm continuing eligibility.

Services Australia:

‘If you’re eligible, we’ll pay you $750 for each 7 day period you’ve been told to self-isolate or quarantine, or are caring for someone who has COVID-19. You must make a new claim for each 7 day period.

‘You must make a new claim for each period.’
