Can someone enlighten me on Uber's policy for having open alcohol containers in the vehicle? I love it that Uber doesn't provide new drivers with guidelines for what is permissible and what might be misconstrued as illegal and represent a potential liability risk for you as a driver.

I googled this topic and the law seems to vary by state. In Florida alcohol consumption is permitted in commercial vehicles, however it's unclear to me if shared-rides like uber fall in this category.

I always tell people it's against the law, whenever anyone has a bottle or cup. You have to be vigilant if you're working South Beach at night. People usually throw it out or drink it. Only twice have they cancelled on me.

Regardless of the law, I don't allow open beverages or food consumption in my car. That's just a mess waiting to happen. However, in the event that they do spill, report it to Uber to collect a cleaning fee. Make sure to take a picture for proof.

Last time I checked my little car isn't a commercial vehicle and I don't have a commercial license/insurance. I had to tell people more than once that open containers are not allowed in my car, I don't care what the other Uber driver allowed before. Same as EagleEye they usually discard or drink it right away... Only once I had a smart /\ss tell me she had gingerale in the cup; I cancelled on her.

Yesterday I had dropped off a pool passanger, she told me to wait for her for 5min then drop her off 1mile away I said I don't get paid for extra miles on pool it's strictly your dropped off location the adress can't be changed, so she replies I'll tip you, so I waited half hour and after I dropped her off she didn't tip she just walked away lol it's possible that she forgot or she schemed Me, I didn't say hey what about my tip? I should of though, funny thing is my next passanger gave me a 10 dollar tip, picked her up from wallmart didn't even go far, I never would think I would get tipped that good from picking up someone at a wallmart going half a mile away, you just never know

Its up to you to know tbe laws, if you are a comercial vehicle you'd know it.

In Florida olen containers are illegal. Even an empty beer bottle in your trunk can get you into trouble.

Sorry, you will learn that the people lye all the time..just not to walk 2 blooks or not to pay even 2 dollars.sorry again, they believe that we are stupid.

Not only did the the passenger schemed you, Uber also schemed you. And if you think that's bad, keep accepting Pool. It's only gonna get worse for you.

I get that you cannot have alcohol in the vehicle if you are a private party. However if you are a commercial vehicle such as a taxi, a limo or bus this does not apply to them. From what I've read, from a legal stand point, Uber falls in a gray area because it's a "shared ride" service that results in a commercial transaction.

That said, I'm glad to see that nearly everyone is banning alcohol in their vehicles. At least on this front I'm glad to see there is consistency.

I stopped driving for Uber/Lyft 5 month ago, but in almost 1000 rides, never let riders with open containers. Lost just about 3 rides and a few disgruntled paxs who might gave me bad ratings, but still retired with 4.9 stars. Open containers is a NO-NO.

Not only did the the passenger schemed you, Uber also schemed you. And if you think that's bad, keep accepting Pool. It's only gonna get worse for you.

LOL pool rides have to be taken, atleast some, I've received warning text msges from uber before, and it's impossible to avoid now with the 3dollar promo, everybody is using it so most of your request would be pool

I don't take pool and have never received a text specific to pool , anyway those warnings are a joke not to be taken seriously.
