Email received this evening from Ola.

Introducing no contact deliveries
Ola
Hi Lien,
We understand that COVID-19 has had a significant impact on the demand for rideshare.
At Ola we are working to secure opportunities to help you to increase your earnings and to support your fellow Australians through these unprecedented times.
From today, we're working with grocers, retailers and restaurants to provide unaccompanied food and parcel delivery to their customers.
What does this mean for you?
You will still be able to complete trips with riders, however increasingly bookings may come from businesses to deliver packages or even packaged hot food to someone who is self-isolating in their home.
Picking up the delivery
When you have arrived at the pickup location, let the customer know you are there. The customer will then let you know if they are riding or need a parcel to be delivered.

Ask the customer for the particular delivery instructions. Be sure to follow social distancing measures when picking up and dropping off packages.
Dropping off the delivery
When you drop off the delivery, be sure to take a photo for your records. Note that some rides may have to deliver at several different locations.
We understand that deliveries are not for everyone. We're working on improving our platform to allow you to choose whether or not to accept deliveries. Until then, we're hoping that you can help our communities and in turn help us increase demand for you, our drivers.
Stay safe,
Team Ola

This should work in well with Amazon Flex and Uber Eats, for drivers who do those as well as rideshare.

However, surely it can't be hard for Ola to include a notification in the request telling us whether it's a delivery request or a ride request? It's never been a problem for Uber notifying us whether the request is for Eats, POOL, XL or X.

There's a lot of insurance issues when product goes missing in transit and limitations on what goods can be delivered eg: NO PAINT for starters
What happens when drivers steal the meals with Uber Eats and other food delivery platforms, such as Menulog, Deliveroo and Doordash?

Has there been any known insurance issues?

No insurance issues regarding a $10.00 pizza going missing as Uber credits the restaurant to save face, but will a hardware store be happy to cover a $300 power tool which goes missing?

I'm not sure how the insurance works as I don't drive for Amazon Flex, but I imagine that Amazon would have the proper insurance measures in place, in cases where items end up go missing.

These delivery arrangements have clearly been introduced in haste and without an adequate platform to support them.

The driver doesn't know whether the ride is a passenger trip or a delivery until after arriving at the customer's request point and contacting the customer.

The driver needs then to obtain delivery instructions and to comply with them. They also need to take a photograph as a record of the delivery.

The driver will have the issues of finding legal and safe parking at both ends of the trip and may have to deliver a parcel far into a block of apartments.

At this stage, there's no option to opt out of deliveries.

And, most importantly, there is no car insurance coverage for deliveries other than with # (RACV in Victoria (?)): see https://uberpeople.net/threads/be-very-careful-about-uber-eats-insurance-coverage.316987/.

Does Bingle cover UberEats drivers? Or other food delivery companies?

Unfortunately no, Bingle does not cover UberEats/other food delivery drivers. Bingle's Uber/Rideshare cover is ONLY for rideshare. It does not extend to food, parcel delivery, taxi's, couriers etc.

Reach out to the Insurance Council of Australia to find the cover that's right for you.

Ola suspends the driver account immediately if there is a report and the driver doesn't pick up the phone.
I've sat the at Ola office where this ant stole a rider speakers that they forgot to pick up in the boot of the car. Was kind of impossible for him to deny he doesn't have the speaker as it was in the boot of the car and secured :roflmao:

Anyways the ola muppet was like I know you have it just admit it and we'll let you drive again. Just give back the damn speaker to the rider. He ended up fessing up and said yeah he has had it for a couple of weeks in his house. "I"m assuming enjoying the speakers".

My own experience had a rider leave a wallet in the car from the last rider. The rider attempted to call but his phone was a piece of shit so couldn't understand anything or even hear him. 5 minutes later "Already driving back to the rider place as I see the wallet on the chair" the ola phone support muppet rings me up and said rider left wallet confirm please. I confirm told him I'm headed back there now.

Ask for compensation the muppet said you work that out with the rider we just wanted to know you had it. I chuck the wallet at the rider and drove off. Wasn't going to be worth asking for cash :p

This wouldn't work on Uber as their muppets and staff don't care enough. Both companies have their pros and cons.
