Ola have just announced a $800 bonus for Gong based drivers. The only requirement is that you are online 40 hours this week until midnight Sunday. This is apparently on top of any ride earnings, referral bonuses etc. Not bad, I've already got 3 hours under my belt. I'm assuming this is a generic offer and not driver specific. Thoughts guys and girls?

I had them switch my account from Sydney based to Gong based a few weeks ago. Painful process. Their systems and people really aren’t helpful.

Just contact them and ask. And be prepared to be offroaded for hours to days. They might ask for your documents again. Fight the request if you value your dignity. Or have them ready if you need the money.

With fuber, being gong based is necessary to drive where I actually live. System limitation. And somehow I naturally gravitated to driving in the gong (mostly Shellharbour) anyway while on my way to Sydney on Fridays and on my way back to the country on Saturdays (typically). I’ve only been assaulted by a druggy paxhole once in Barrack Heights, and it was minor. Engine off. Get out. Hey Siri, call the police. Ride canceled. Mutual one star. Complaint to fuber. Paxhole allegedly had account suspended.

I didn’t really need to change Ola, but I figured I should as that’s where I drive and if they have promos there, I’ll take them.

While I’m not on Ola much due to the graveyard hours being so busy, the times I have been were unusually rewarding. Just yesterday I got an Ola ride from Wollongong Station to Otford from someone who just missed their train and wanted to go horse riding. Then two minutes later, right after I logged back onto Uber, I got a ride from Otford to Cronulla for a party of bushwalkers, one of whom had an injured knee, and none of whom wanted to wait for the train.

Not in the history of Otford has anyone got a match 200 metres away with a one minute arrival. Sure, they had been getting No Cars Found errors for 15+ minutes prior, but...

Drivers are a precious commodity outside of the big cities. And this is evidence only uber has been able to build a decent rider base in the regions. Enjoy the wage guyz.

You might find the Shellharbour area particularly popular with Ola. Did 4 or 5 back to back trips around there yesterday. Actually, I'm in Flinders now, might be onto something 😊. I've only ever had one pick up in Otford, a couple of runners who were heading back to Bundeena where they had left their car. I remember about a year ago picking up back to back surge trips in Helensburgh, just fairly local runs.... almost had a coronary 😬.

Are there any acceptance rates that apply?

If not, seems like a pretty easy way to earn $800 to me. Just log on and ignore all requests.

And in the meantime, in my village, Ola still hasn't fired up, despite running ads on TV. They were to go on the 4th, then from what I hear on the 11th. My guess is that they just can't get enough riders AND drivers. If they don't start tomorrow, I'll ask for a refund on the money I've spent registering as a driver. That'll scare 'em!

This is why most regional areas are a joke for any rideshare driver; couldn't make it to Sydney on Friday and the Central Coast results are there to see. Maybe 2.5 good hours a week there. Sydney was good as usual.

I sent them an email today asking them when they're going live in Bathurst, and they said they're set to go live tomorrow.

No mention of acceptance rates with the offer. The only additional criteria stated was that Go To trips don't apply towards your online hours and you must complete 80% of your trips.

Drive Wollongong, a completely different ballgame there. Mind you, pretty dead at the moment tho after the early morning mayhem 😀

One o’clock in my village, nothing on the Ola front. I reckon they’re just hot air. Just sent them an email saying that if they’re not going to launch, I want to get reimbursed for the money I’ve spent registering as one of their ‘ghost’ drivers here. Not very impressed so far. And from what I gather from my Uber riders, they’re not either. All everyone has seen so far are empty promises. They don’t seem to realise that in a village like mine reputation spreads very quickly amongst us folks with extra digits. Lots of banjo players here and they all talk...

They went live in 16 new regions yesterday including Bathurst.

There's probably tech issues preventing people from using the service.
It's not like Ola experiencing tech issues is a new thing.

That's all rubbish. Still not live in my village, tried locations in Tamworth and Orange, also still not live. Emailed them and asked them if they had actually tried it themselves. Told them they were pretty useless and why don't they check with the guy in the next cubicle who is in charge of launching if it's working. No answer back yet.
