Ok last year was my first year of Uber and Lyft. I put 27 thousand miles on my 2007 Saab, full time and it ran like a champ. 400 to 500 dollars a week, 90 to 130 a week on gas.

However in January my Saab took a dump and no mechanic has been able to fix it for a month.

I bought a used 2010 Chevy for cheap but the gas mileage is horrendous, need new tires and brakes just to even get approved with Uber still. So here are the options.

I want to do Uber and Lyft only as a side job as in a few weeks I should be a bartender, and perhaps then not do it at all.

1. Use my new Chevy Impala 2010 - 500 dollars on tires, brakes rotor but make less then I did last year because my gas mileage is ten mile per gallon less. I really don't want Uber to ruin this car like it did my Saab.

2. Keep the Chevy 2010 as my personal car, and have my girlfriend co sign a new car for me. 2017 hybrid hydai sonata 42 mpg but 400 dollars a month.

- Also approved for 2017 Chevy cruise 35mpg at 250 a month.

3. Keep the Chevy 2010 I own as personal car and do Uber's leasing at 99 dollars a week for a used car that I'm responsible for if it breaks down. Hopefully this would just be for a few months and I turn it in when I'm ready to leave Uber for good.

4. Get a new job for at least 12 to 15 dollars an hour for right now.

5. I applied for welfare and unemployment and I have a phone interview for unemployment since I have no job because my Saab broke. Can I count on unemployment till I get my bartending thing figured out?

Travis Kalanick should be body slammed.

A few simple rules for a good Uber car:
  • Never use a new car! You'll be losing money on depreciation doing Uber. If it meets local vehicle requirements then Older is better.
  • High MPG is better. Gas is a major expense. That why many chose hybrids, but there are many non-hybrid, high mileage cars.
  • Must be a smooth ride and look good outside and inside. Otherwise, your rating will suffer.
I suggest that you trade in your 2010 Chevy for a 2009 - 2011 high MPG Uber car. Stay away from 2017s even if they are hybrids, unless they will NEVER be used to Uber.

Yeah that's what I've been thinking. Just trade in the 2010 for something with better gas mileage.

These used car dealers are crooks though. I also have my broke down Saab. Maybe they could give me something for that?

The Saab might be worth something to another Saab owner as a parts car on Craigslist, even if it's not accepted as a trade-in by any dealership.
That 2010 Impala wouldn't be a bad X car at Austin TNC rates, especially if only driven during high-demand times. I would *not* drive it at LA base rates though.

I'd start looking at dealerships for used hybrids or larger 4cyl. cars if you want to keep going on UberX, or maybe the cheapest minivan you can get that qualifies for UberXL. If you're going to be driving around at 18-20mpg, you might as well drive something with the potential for higher-paying platforms. If you qualified for 2017's from dealership loan companies, local credit unions would probably be able to approve loans for you for older cars at lower interest rates.

Travis should be body slammed because you don't have the marketable skills to get a job that pays better than $12-15 an hour?

You already own the 2010 Impala. If you don't make any payments on it, that's the best route for Ubering. Why get a second car with a payment, more insurance cost.... just to do Uber part time?

Just do what you are doing and drive Uber when you need the cash in your 2010 Impala. Simple.
