OK, how do we feel about upfront pricing so far?

Let me start with this: I hate Uber/Lyft with every inch of my body. Have been driving part time since 2015. So, this gig has never been my main source of income.

Prior to this upfront pricing, my weekly goal has always been $300-$400 while driving 3-4 hrs. per day 5 days per week.

For the last 2 weeks I’ve been making almost twice as much as my weekly goal while driving 3 hrs max per day. On top of that, I’ve noticed I drive now less miles than before - thanks to radar Uber decided to share, finally.

Now, knowing Uber’s history, I can safely assume that there is probably some kind of bate and switch scheme going on right now. So, I have no high hopes for this new gimmick so far.

Just wanted to see what you guys are experiencing and what are your thoughts on this subject.

I ran my xl vehicle last weekend in hopes of taking advantage of the Halloween crowd, and was surprised that with UFP xl rides didn’t seem much higher than x in many cases.

Now they can price any ride however they want, so you really need to be discerning on what you accept. Surge is almost meaningless now.

You need to qualify for it … ones you have shuffled 1k passengers you will get a email to join after you will need to complete 50 longhaul and keep about 25 meal on Uber eats
Still working feverishly to reach this.

Recently, I had some riders who showed me how much they were paying with upfront pricing, and I was shocked to learn that that they were being charged 2.5 times what I was getting paid. Before u/p, I was usually getting roughly 60% of the total fare (before tips) while 40% went to Uber and local taxes/surcharges, etc. So my conclusion is that u/p was conceived to benefit Uber, which makes sense. After all, why on earth would Uber introduce anything that would be beneficial to the drivers? 🙄
As was suspected, it seems that the offers are not as good as they were when upfront pricing started about 5 months ago. Just my unscientific observation.
Upfront pricing can only benefit you if you are a very strategic ride-discriminating driver. You have to know the value of your time and resources compared to each offer. If you're out their ant'ing around, it's just another pay cut. Upfront pricing does make me consider getting activated again, but probably not enough to get the green light.

Your observations are correct, especially the past week in which the payouts have PLUMMETED.

Uber's been gradually cutting the rates since last summer but the payouts last week were dramatically lower.

Uber's cut the pay rates so dramatically this past week that it's become very difficult to find anything close to a respectable offer let alone a lucrative offer. It's not unusual for me to decline 30,40,50 pings in a row.

But you keep driving for them....so they are offering you enough. what makes upfront pricing an attractive offer for me is that it gives me the unlimited destination filter. If I'm already headed from point A to point B, now that I have the information about the trip and the amount of pay, I can make the decision to accept. This is more inline with the "rideshare" original idea...I'm already driving from Fairfax to the city, why not pick someone up and get $15 for it.

The fact that I know the amount of pay isn't worth the risk and the hassle is why I stay inactive.

Drove last night a few hours before midnight . Love knowing destination and fare upfront .
Plenty of $2 and $3 dollars a mile short trips
For a veteran driver this new system is great . There is also many many terrible paid trip on the radar that no one wants to touch.

My advice as a part timer ocasiónalo driver , know the areas you want to work . Calculate the price you are willing to work amd stick with it . Quickly make numbers and just take the trip that fit your wishlist .
Mine last night was stay on NW DC , $2 a mile short pickup and only areas where there is a trip back .
Sticking to that , I stayed on 35-40 an hour on peak hours with no stress knowing pick up and drop off.

Update . Went out tonight Friday night again. Most trip minimum fare $4.53. Longer trips were event worst . 20 min trips offers for $6. Stick around for a few hours and I went home . Not worst it before midnight.

Uber is definitely turning the dial in their favor. The offers in the past few weeks seem to be less. The fact that they can just change a parameter in their software without having to publish new rates or creat some sort of “new” program is genius. They can tweek things as needed daily.

Last night was worst Saturday ever, and it feels like this is how its going to be. Drove ten hours 4pm-2am, earnings were down 7/hr.

Grubby pax not ready. Waiting and lots of cancels. LOTs of cancels. The wait timer is seven minutes and pays $4. Not worth it to wait any longer, especially on borderline offers.

What was worse was that its 2am, they obviously have a shortage of drivers accepting trips, but they didnt raise the rates.

Destination filter doesn't work at all, in fact it lies. (can go into this more later, but I'm too tired/angry.)

I realized what they are doing now. When you are finishing up a trip, they start spamming you with lowball, sub min wage offers. Your only option is to accept or go offline. When you go offline and turn on after you complete the trip, its 5-10 minutes until you get a legit offer, so you are making $5 less an hour because of the down time.

The spamming is their way to reduce the driver pool some %, or to get lucky with some idiot accepting.

I'm still unsure if I gained any helpful insights from this thread...
But, I can say that I'm continually surprised at the number of anti-Uber, anti-Establishment, folks who continue to drive! My view is, if we don't like the way the company enables a stream of income by going out to the car and driving off - and continuing that for 8-10 hours until you come home with a wad of cash, then go build an app and start your own Uber. Obviously, it's a breeze - anyone could do it. And, then make sure that you maintain your business as "not for profit" so that no drivers ever criticize your sweet deal.

What stream of income ? Working $20 hour with car and covering all the expenses does not qualify for a steam on income . In the end of the day , you may be paying to work .i guess we all have different standards . If YOURSELF cannot get a job that pays POSITIVE income , you may ask yourself why and how to improve yourself to start do in it .Let’s face it , there was a time that was posible to make a living with UBER , now it is a race to the bottom with just the desperate drivers that don’t have other choices .

I’ve been saying it for years .. gig work shouldn’t be your main income it should supplement it. Gig work takes no skills and makes you lazy and stupid it doesn’t exercise you body or mind

that's like saying if you don't like amazon go and start your own amazon, or your own homedepot. these huge chains have destroyed small business owners.

...and, who's the small business owner in this case - The taxi driver? Or, are you referring to the Uber driver - who wouldn't exist if not for the huge chain (Uber.com).

Obviously I don't know you. But I can draw some conclusions about you from your reply. I would suggest that your stream of income could be improved if you focus on the riders rather than the rides. The difference between making money and barely getting by can be in the tips. If you're not earning at least 25% of your income in tips - do some research into how to improve. Is your car clean? Are you friendly? Do you go the literal "extra mile" to please the customer? It pays off in the end.
