Let me start with this: I hate Uber/Lyft with every inch of my body. Have been driving part time since 2015. So, this gig has never been my main source of income.

Prior to this upfront pricing, my weekly goal has always been $300-$400 while driving 3-4 hrs. per day 5 days per week.

For the last 2 weeks I’ve been making almost twice as much as my weekly goal while driving 3 hrs max per day. On top of that, I’ve noticed I drive now less miles than before - thanks to radar Uber decided to share, finally.

Now, knowing Uber’s history, I can safely assume that there is probably some kind of bate and switch scheme going on right now. So, I have no high hopes for this new gimmick so far.

Just wanted to see what you guys are experiencing and what are your thoughts on this subject.

Your experience is very opposite of what other markets with those same features rolled out. People are driving more miles for less pay in virtually all other markets upfront Fares has rolled out in.

Now is it the market or the driver ? If it doesn’t make money it doesn’t make sense !! if your loosing money why continue? Warehouses in my area are paying 20+s an hour and they can’t find enough people to actually work

My experience with the new system is limited but positive . As you said , I think IF YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO , these new radar and upfront driver prove can be good .Only drove twice on the last 2 months, both times with large bonuses for 10 trips that I reached on the same night. Drove last night, Friday with a $190 bonus for 10 trips that I rarely get. Did 12 trips in 4 hours and bring $320.All short trips ( 1-4 miles) in NW DC , Let’s just note that the bonus make all the diference. Taking the bonus out and working the whole shift of 8 hours , it was very likely I would make $250 plus if I stayed after midnight .
I think the radar and knowing where and how much takes the stress out of this gig if you know your area and how to milk the system . This is when experience pays off .
My hat off to all my colleagues for the Shirlington and Golden Corral meet ups,and many here in this forum, that help me became an efficient and resourceful driver with their discussions and contributions .

Agreed. Less stress is what I like so far. Although I don’t recall ever getting bonuses for 10 trips (always starts with 50 or 60), I did OK last night. Drove 2.5 hrs. and made $88. Also need to mention I drive way less dead miles now then before.

It's the "we missed you come back" bonus.

Don't drive for a while and you get them.

Last one was $100.

When it hits $200 I'll do it, then go dormant until next offer.

So far, I’m a fan. I can completely avoid DC and Baltimore while still keeping plenty busy. It also seems that plenty of rides are paying more than they used to. Yea, some are less, but it seems to me I’m making more/mile and minute at the end of the day because I’m able to cherry-pick. I’m not anal about keeping track of $/mile or $/minute, but I have a pretty good idea of how I’m doing.

This also allows me to get a few more rides per shift because it’s like having unlimited, perfect destination filters when I need to work my way back home. I found the “real” dst filter to be really useless.

I wonder if they are giving us a honeymoon period, and will shortly start shrinking the pay.

My experience and feelings about this new gimmick appear to be very similar. You have a great point when you call it an unlimited DF. The way Uber often times offers me rides precisely back to my hometown area makes me feel that they are using data based algorithms to make me accept rides at the lower rate than it would have been sent to those who don’t live or don’t want to drive towards my hometown. In other words, if Uber sees that I almost hit my daily goal, they would send me a ride request towards my home that pays at or slightly less than $ per mile rate. I wouldn’t accept it if I had no plans to go back/wrap it up for the day, but they know I can call it the day and probably would accept it rather than driving 10 dead miles back home. It is evil and genius at the same time..

I do wonder how Uber is keeping enough drivers in the cities (Balt and DC). Maybe some drivers prefer the city, but without major surge and/or boosts, I avoid the city at all costs. This new upfront pricing allows me to do just that. Even if I could make a little more in the city (which I’m not convinced is the case), the trade off is more than worth it to me.

You need to qualify for it … ones you have shuffled 1k passengers you will get a email to join after you will need to complete 50 longhaul and keep about 25 meal on Uber eats

I forgot also you will need to kick 10 passengers out your car mid trip with out ending the ride and drive all the way to the original destination
